  • New Orleans resorts

Has anyone been to New Orleans this year that can give an update on the resort(s)? We are looking to go sometime in 2011. We need at least a 1 bedroom because a studio unit does not work out good for us. Also are there any resorts that we should not consider. We have a handicapped daughter that will be traveling with us as well. We don't require a handicap unit, but we don't want to carry her up 5 flights of steps either.

I own at the Quarterhouse and go most years, Planing on going back next Oct, From what I recall there might be a very small step as you walk in from the street into the resort. There are Elevators and for the most part handicap accessible with the exception of that 1 small step when you first walk in.

I haven't been to Na'Orleans this year, but we were there last summer (2009) and enjoyed our stay at the Wyndham LaBelle Maison, which has an elevator and would be accessible for your daughter.

We stayed at Avenue Plaza last December and it has elevators and is being renovated.

It isn't in the French Quarter, so if your plan to do the French Quarter, it may not be the best choice.

We had Trolley passes, so getting to the French Quarter wasn't a problem. I'm not sure if the Trolleys have handicapped access.

Thanks for the suggestions. My daughter is mobile and can walk up a some steps. What I am trying to avoid is excessive steps such as several flights. We will travel by trolley while there because that should be fun and a great way to see the area. We are going to avoid Mardi Gras as well as the hot summer months.

We just returned from staying at Avenue Plaza. As was sais pre viously it is not downtown butg is right on the St Charles street car line which we found to be quite easy to use to get around. It's about 10 minutes by streetcar to French Quarter. It is a straight walk in from street and right to elevators, no steps. They have studios and 1br's there.

There is also a handicap entrance with no steps.

If you were standing on the sidewalk on Rue Chartres looking at the entrance to the Quarter House, to your left would be the strip club (don't remember the name). To the left of the club is a door for handicap usage which opens with your Quarter House key card. It opens into the hallway of the part of the resort which is on the other side of the courtyard from the main entrance.

                      Some NOLA resort info

Some of us NOLA resort owners have developed a Yahoo Group to keep each other up on NOLA happenings, offerings, opportunities for exchanges, sales, rents and give-aways. Anyone owning a TS in NOLA is welcomed and encouraged to join. There is a link to the group below, which should allow you to send the request to join.

                      NOLATimeshareOwners : NOLA Timeshare Owners

                      Secondly,
I own at the Quarter House. Unit 222 (2 bed/2bath) week 7. The location of the unit is such that we can't get a mobility scooter to it. I am looking to swap units with another week 7 owner who does have a unit with direct access to an elevator.
We stayed in a one bedroom (exchange) in March and had no trouble getting from that unit to the hallway leading to the handicapped entrance. So I'm hoping to find an owner of a 2 bd/2bath who will switch with us.

Alternately, we would gladly do an exchange with another owner for a week in April. We plan to spend the months of Feb and Mar in FL, and then visit NOLA. We'd do the last week in Mar or early Apr. We ARE NOT interested in being in NOLA during Mardi Gras.
Hope to hear from some of you,
                      Eileen

I own at Plaza Suite. It is in the warehouse district across from Harrah's. Easy access to everything. It is only 2 floors and has an elevator. Almost all the rooms are 1 bedroom.

I've used 2011, but 2012 is a go! Sure would. BUT....my week 7 is week 7 except when Mardi Gras falls that week. Then it bounces to week 9. So, I haven't looked it up, but if MG is week 7 in 2012, then I bet you don't want it.

I will find out to make sure that my unit is able to get to by wheel chair. There are 2 elevators 1 I believe that it is not but the other one I am pretty sure that it is wheel chair accessible, If it is I am OK with the exchange, Right now I only use 3 days of my unit and rent out the rest, Week 7 my wife is off from School so I can use the whole week. When it falls on week 9 then I will either bank it or rent it out. Any idea how week 9 rents out. My week rents out because of the football season and the convections going on at that time.
