Ok, it was Hades Hot today at the fest. Crowds high but our strategy worked - camped at Acura on the far side, use the outside track to wander elsewhere. Yesterday was too mobbed at Florence and the Machine, so I left; I don't like what the big national acts are doing to the fest. I did fine at the Fais Do Do stage; caught Ani De Franco and the Preservation Hall band, not exactly sloppy seconds.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are fabulous, they played today after Marcia Ball - they are playing House of Blues tonight too; we went last night and they rocked the House. Great venue, too. Tomorrow I would like to spend some time in the Blues Tent - missed Anthony and the Imperials today.

Riverdees - there is no more Ritz shuttle!!
We're using cabs; at $5 a person it's the easiest way in. Takes waiting in line to get back, but not awful. The Veterans Association of America has wheelchairs for loan just inside the main gate. There have been plenty available both yesterday and today when i got there; if you arrive reasonably early you shouldn't have a problem.

Are you going to check out the Eagles tomorrow night? I'll be curious about your strategy then...

I can't get enough of Jazz Fest... even picked up WWOZ on their web site and listened to the live music all day at work.

For those of you who can't make it to NOLA, they are broadcasting some decent music live from Jazzfest at jazzfest - YouTube

I saw Grace Potter and the Nocturnals yesterday. She was great. My Morning Jacket (playing right now) is also very good. I think they're going to be broadcasting the Beach Boys and Eagles later on.

EDIT: OK, I'm wrong on that, but they are broadcasting Tom Petty tonight and Jimmy Buffet tomorrow night.

Used the same strategy today for the Eagles but the Saturday crowds were much worse than yesterday. Still, the outside track is the only way to get around, it was impossible to move through the crowd inside. The Eagles were fantastic, though I bailed early, and Alain Toussant was a treat earlier in the day. We may take next year off - the heat and the crowds have really been overmuch.

Several local people have commented that the French Quarter Fest is more like what Jazz Fest was in the earlier years. It is more difficult for local group to get on the lineups...
Traveling Broadens the mind and I want to do more French Quarter Fest in New Orleans is my favourite festival

We just got home. Had a great time! But it was crowded and hot.

Glad you had fun. It was so hot, and crowded. I am seriously considering passing next year.

Ha, the crowds were as bad as any event I've ever seen. Still loved it, and I heard some music and groups that I would have never had a chance to listen to. It was crowded, but I loved it!

It is a great festival. I've heard rumours they may be looking for an alternate venue to accommodate the increasing crowds, so I'll stay tuned. Maybe they should add a third weekend!

I never knew anything about Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, but after seeing them at JazzFest, I am now a fan. Along with Sara Bareilles, who showed up on the Grace Potter Pandora Channel.

Ditto. We saw Grace Potter twice - if you liked her at the Fest, you have GOT to see her in a smaller venue!

LOL - the same day you post this, I just noticed that Grace Potter is coming to my town to play in a small venue in early June. However, I wasn't a big fan of the replays I saw of GP, so now I'm wondering if I should go back and rewatch...

You are lucky, most of her tour is as a warm-up at big venues. Check these - still not as good as live. The Paris video with the most hits has dancing girls that don't accompany her on tour:

Very nice voice! Tickets are going for $25... not sure I'll make it. Just thought it was odd that I noticed that she was coming and then I saw your post. Maybe it is meant for me to be there!

The link doesn't link right -- go to Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and click on "video." There are a few really good videos. "Paris" is one of their bigger hits.
