  • Zipcars in NOLA?

I thought I'd check to see whether anyone knows whether they now have Zipcars in New Orleans. The Central Parking website says that they have them, but zipcar.com does not list New Orleans as a city with zipcars. Just wondering, because I got a weekly rental from Hertz for $140, but then parking is going to be an additional $140 plus tips (valet only -- non-valet is more expensive).

Given that we really don't need cars much, except to get to the Garden District and Carrollton if we don't want to use the streetcar, it looks like Zipcars could be more cost-effective for the three or four times we will need a car.

So, does anyone know for sure?

OK, so I called Zipcar, and they said they don't have any in New Orleans. Central Parking is not answering their phone.

I'm not surprised. When my son went to school in NOLA, we really wished there was a zipcar location but no such luck. I guess it has not changed much in the last few years...Now that he is in Chicago, there is a zipcar location right in his building. No need to have a car at all.

We plan on zipping around the Quarter while we're there. Just found out that the W, where we're staying for the last 5 nights, has a complimentary hotel car and driver. So, we're problably going to skip the rentals, and use the hotel car to get to Dante's Kitchen, Toups Meatery, Willie Mae's Scotch House and Ye Olde College Inn. Use either the streetcar or a taxi to get back afterwards, and most of the rest of the time, we'll be walking.

We're booked at NOLA on Sunday at 7, K-Paul's on Friday at 6:15 and Stella on Tuesday at 7, if you would like to meet us at any of those places. We're probably going to wing it on the other nights, though Charmaine Neville is playing at Snug Harbor on Monday night.

I will be watching for any NOLA news and updates. We are going there in March and will be staying at CLUB LA PENSION, so any helpful hints about the Quarter will be appreciated.

                    Don--

You see that I already have a post of things to do in NOLA, right? Avoid the restaurant at Club La Pension -- they say it's great, but it really isn't. And there are so many great places to eat in New Orleans, you wouldn't want to waste a meal. Are you going to be there during Mardi Gras, or after? New Orleans is a whole different animal during Carnival, so recommendations will change depending on when in March you are planning on being there.

No we are down there just me and the wife. She may want to keep it on the romantic side since this is the first time we are going by us alone in 10 years.

Yes, I did see some of your things to do posts and have been forwarding some of them on the the home research team (fancy way of saying DW and I will check into them when we can sit down together).
We are there March 15-22, after Mardi Gras.
The DW is looking into food tasting tours. Certainly we will try a couple good restaurants, and will avoid Club La Pension.
Other than that...I am going to keep checking TS4M for suggestions in the archives.

She might want to check out Tastebud tours:

                              http://www.yelp.com/biz/tastebud-food-tours-new-orleans

It looks interesting. So far, I've been pretty disappointed with the other tours I've taken. Tastebud seems to have good reviews, so we're going to try it this time.
