  • Louisville questions?

Can someone shed some light on Louisville?

I am debating attending a convention in the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts which is supposed to be next to or connected to the host hotel, The Galt.

Problem is the Galt seems to get mixed reviews, and the Marriott hotel is a couple blocks away and I don't know if it is a short walk (bad legs) or even if it would be safe to walk back and forth as some parts of the convention may last until 11pm or later.

I guess the key questions are the lowdown on The Galt and how safe is the downtown areas around the convention area?

    Any help would be appreciated..

      Galt House

Haven't stayed there in several years, but did attend a reception with Newt Gingrich last year. The hotel looks o.k. to me.

I lived in Louisville many years ago and stayed at the Galt House once, when it was new and the nicest hotel downtown. From the tripadvisor reviews I take it that the original wing hasn't been updated since I was there in the 70s!!

I'd call the Marriott and ask how far it is from the convention center. If it's really only two blocks I'm sure it would be fine to walk, since all the other attendees will be out and about as well. That used to be a fairly safe area and I'm sure it's still fine.

          Just Moved to Louisville

The Galt House has just underwent a 10 million dollar reservation. It is pretty nice. I think now that both towers are finished. The mixed reviews are from people staying in the older tower versus the remolded tower. The downtown has plenty of restoration. When I was visiting I stayed at the Hyatt which is right next door to 4th street Live which is the entertainment area. The downtown is pretty safe and busy most of the night...any of the hotels are in good areas.
