Going to New Orleans on Monday afternoon (leave early on the 10th) with 22 year old grandson, finally. Need recommendations on what to do and how to get to and from Airport to Quarter House.

Going to New Orleans on Monday afternoon (leave early on the 10th) with 22 year old grandson, finally. Need recommendations on what to do and how to get to and from Airport to Quarter House.

We used Big Frank's Limo guy to transport us to and from the airport. He was cheaper than a cab or a shuttle and offered great service.
We enjoyed the Taste of Nawlins cuisine tour. There was a Groupon for it. The guide took the group on a walking tour to 4 different restaurants serving authentic New Orleans food, and gave us a lot of historical information also. We ended up going back to one of the restaurants, Oceania, and
If you go to the casino, try to bring back some of the money I left there!

Be sure to hit the Gumbo Shop on St. Peter in the quarter for at least one meal.

standard fare for two people into the french quarter from the airport is $36. The shuttle is more expensive than that and stops more often. I didn't know about Frank's guy or I might have tried him...
If this is your first trip there, take a tour...there are several good ones. We love just wandering around the french quarter, trying the food, listening to street music. Lafayette Cemetary is very interesting and an easy walk from the trolley...right across from the amazing Commander's Palace if you have a lot of money to spend for a culinary experience. If the Saints are in town that would be fun. The waterfront and the aquarium are good too. Haven't been to the WWII museum yet, but they say that is good. Our favorite breakfast spots in the French Quarter are Jimmy J's and Fleur de Lis, both on Chartres Street.

We enjoyed the WWII Museum very much and spent a few hours there. Commander's Palace had a special - lunch was expensive but the martinis were 25 cents so if you availed yourself of that offer it ended up being very reasonable.

I know this post is a few years old, but ballpark what was the rate? We are planning a trip for Mardi Gras. Cabs from the airport are $36 each way for 2 people. I checked a couple of the private services, and was quoted between $115 and $275 each way...
