What resorts has anyone been to in the NO area in the past 6 months and what did you think?

  • #2
I was at the Quarter House in July and had a good time. Resort looked better
    than it ever had.

      Looks good

I bought Hotel de Eau Vive unit sight unseen. Went to see it in June and was pleasantly surprised. Many places are up and running, just waiting for business to return to normal.

It seems to be a good time to exchange into New Orleans. I see a lot of weeks there on the availibility list at DAE.

When is a good time to go to NO? Is the middle of Nov to beginning of Dec good?

That is a great time as the temps are just right. I will be there early Oct as long as another Hurricane does not affect it.

              Frank,

I will be very interested in your report about New Orleans from someone on the ground. I think the French Quater is basically back up and running. It is the outlying neighborhoods that are still sitting there. There's a lot of Katrina one year later articles right now in Houston because of the anniversary and the number of re-located New Orleans still here.

I was a Jazz Fest '05, loved it, and looked around while I was there for a Jazz Fest unit. I bought a HDLVive Jazz Fest week at a good price as a result. I have not been back since the fire, so I don't know how it was affected. But I liked it when I saw it.

I will tell you not to let them rent out your unit. I decided to give it a try, and netted $93 for my week, less the annual fees. I could have done way better on ebay (got $1,400 for my 2006 Mardi Gras week rental at Club La Pension), but I figured that I would try an experiment. Now I know.

Here is an updated video of the current French Quarter. You see people but not as many as it used to be.

Are the Saints in town when you are there? If so, are you going to a game?

Yes they are but I was out voted 1 to 5 and I am the one. I would have liked going.

You should argue that you need to check out Reggie Bush in person (don't you have him in our fantasy league? IF not, then you need to scout the opposition)

Have a great time in New Orleans!

Hey Frank, what are your dining plans? As I recall Saturday night dinner is at K-Paul's. Do you know what you're having or do you wing it once you see the menu?

What other spots are you reserving in advance?

I'll look forward to your man-on-the-street, first-hand posts upon your return.

I'm curious how the places just outside the Quarter have fared. We were last there in March 2004 and liked several places on Frenchmen Street. I know Jacques-Imo's has a couple of shops in NYC if he hasn't reopened in NOLA yet which could work for you but not for me (yet).

Eat up and eat often and tell us all about it. We'll be there the week after you (so sorry we cannot be there with you this time) and can use all the inside food info you can deliver.
