Just got back from NOLA. They are "jazzed" that visitors are coming back. Had a great time, despite a close encounter with a freak tornado that touched down in two areas of the city where I'd visited just hours beforehand.
Stayed at Quarter House...a bit noisy but hey, what a location! Enjoyed several restaurants near Quarter House...Bonfire, Mena's, Palace Cafe ($25 fixed prix 3 course dinner before 7, also jazz brunch on Sat and Sun). Up on Jackson Square I enjoyed Cafe Pontalba where I had a free dessert thanks to a coupon I found online. Also enjoyed once again my very favorite restaurant, a middle eastern place called Lebanon's Cafe over on S. Carrollton about a half mi north of Loyola. (Great for vegetarians, and you meat eaters will love their lamb kabobs!)
Highly recommend a funky little bar two doors down from Quarter House. When I was there they were having a wake for their owner Evelyn who'd just died. Proprietor Frank is a real hoot. See the description here:

Want some culture? Until June 1, the Ursaline Convent at 1100 Chartres (same street as Quarter House, 10 block walk) is hosting a wonderful exhibit of 30+ Vatican mosaics. Superb! Convent itself is also interesting. See here:
Vatican Mosaic Exhibition
If you're visiting NOLA after March 1, their Museum of Art in City Park will be hosting what promises to be an excellent exhibit of French masterworks depicting women, called "Femme, Femme, Femme". See description:
NOMA | Featured Exhibition
P.S. I caught so many beads at Mardi Gras parades that I think I should open up a bead store.
P.P.S. Once again, Krewe of Barkus was the best! The Original Mystic Krewe of Barkus Parade for Dogs in New Orleans
