  • Gatlinburg traffic during Memorial Week

    Hello

Will be at Fairfield Smoky Mtns at Governors Crossing in Gatlinburg, TN August 31, through September 7, 2007.

Does anyone have an idea, what traffic and crowds will be like during this period, Labor Day weekend and following week.

    Thanks

    Joe

We were there over Labor Day about 3 years ago and the traffic was really bad. With the new Veterans Blvd. you can bypass most of the traffic in Pigeon Forge.

We were at Fairfield Smokey's last week and had a great time. That is probably my favorite resort in the Smokies.

You will not have to deal with UT Football on that weekend, it adds to the traffic when they are in town.

That may be the understatement of the year.

Do you have the 2008 schedule by any chance? I will be going in Oct 2008 and I hope my week is not during a home game.

In October and Memorial Day (week) it won't matter if there is a UT game or not (unless travelling through Knoxville) in Downtown Gatlinburg. It's not a good time or place for impatient drivers.

You should buy a good map (the freebies can mess you up on the side roads) or use GPS and by-pass the main drag as much as possible. Even then It's hard to avoid the traffic.

For some reason, I keep going back! (I'm a sucker for the Smokies)

I have to disagree. If UT is playing a team from a driving location, like Alabama, a LOT of people stay in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. It definitely increases traffic noticeably.

What week in October are you going? Most of October is gridlocked because of the leaf peepers. The last half of the month is worse than the first. October is busier than summer.
