  • Hotel de L Eau Vive versus Quarter House

Hi, I was wondering which is the better place to stay. This will be the first time in New Orleans for us. We are also traveling with two kids. Is New Orleans, more or less, back to the way it was? Thanks.

It depends on what you want. Both are nice. HDL Vive is just outside the French Quarter, on the other side of Canal St. It's a half block from Mother's, and a block or so closer to Harrah's Casino and the Riverwalk Mall.

Quarter House is in the Quarter, about a block down from Bourbon St.

HDL Vive just installed new carpeting in the lobby and ground floor units due to a fire in the annex next door. The units tend to be a bit bigger. If you have a car (which I don't recommend in NOLA), then parking is a bit easier and closer.

Quarter House will be a block closer to the Antique stores on Royal St., Jackson Square and the shops and clubs on Bourbon St.

You can't go wrong with either one.

Re: NOLA: The tourist areas are back the way they were. The residential areas will take some time yet.

My wife was in New Orleans on business a few weeks ago. Her advise would be to stay in the French Quarter. She said that a lot of stores and restaurants were open in the French Quarter, but she would not consider it back to normal. You don't say how old your children are. Do you feel there are enough activities to keep your family busy for a week, given the condition of New Orleans and the surrounding area?

Thanks everyone for your input. My kids are small, 5 and 2, but they are well traveled. I was tempted by New Orleans because of the timeshares available, but I think I will wait another year or so before I go. I just found out that my husband won't be able to go and I don't want to talk to kids to New Orleans by myself. Thanks again..
