  • Back from MudFest, I mean JazzFest

Had a great time despite thunderstorms and lots and lots of mud. Deep, gooey, yucky mud. It rained all four weekend days of the fest this year, it apparently rains at least one fest day per year, but this year was the worst. Still, I'll go back again

Lots of great music, and an unexpected array of great food (for the cholesterol-unconscious lot) at the fest itself. The crowd was terrific, very mellow, partying and having a great time, everybody friendly. Fascinating people-watching.

Rock N Bowl was awesome, we left before Buckwheat Zydeco but saw some other great music there (yes, bowling/band/bar, it was FUN).

We saw Marcia Ball, Richard Thompson, the Subdudes, Steel Pulse, and a bunch of Cajun bands. Some good gospel music, too. Almost made it back to our chairs for Stevie Wonder but a downpour and the crowds made it impossible to get back to our chairs. Word is that he was awesome.

I can't wait to go back!

Wow would you believe in all my trips to NOLA I have never had 1 day of rain.

Me and my son saw Buckwheat Zydeco right in the LI Brookhaven Amphitheater a year and a half ago for Katrina relief. There were some of the best musicians from Nola there. There was one guy who drank Tabasco Sauce before he sang.

Oh no....4 days of rain, not good!

Glad that you had a great time, in spite of the mud. Great music, food, and friends are a winning combination, even with the rain.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

The mud.. sounds like Woodstock but I'm glad you were happy all the same - you got to hear some good music.
My DH would have loved to hear Thompson. He'd love to see him again but won't go by himself (silly boy).

If he'd love to hear him again, he should go! A perfectly fine show to see alone I would think, and going solo would be preferable to going with someone who wouldn't appreciate it as much... but you should go with him, you might like it!!

I usually try to see him at least once a year. He's usually good for a night or two at Joe's Pub, and the Tarrytown Music Hall, probably a similar venue in Jersey if you have one... he did some great old songs that I love, and his new album is good. He also did a live interview on a separate stage later that afternoon (he is very entertaining when he speaks), and sang a few more songs.

I just checked his schedule, he's playing in Princeton on 10/28 at the McCarter Theatre...

Thanks Glitter. He's silly when he says he won't go alone, i keep telling him he will be with fans and then you;re never alone.
I've been to hear Thompson years ago, like him though not as much as Mike - the problem is The Children, and how we have to have one of us here, at home, for a number of reasons, so one can go out while the other one stays home.

Alright, I will take one of you to see Richard, but you'll have to come to my side of the river...

It was great. I was originally trying to go but could not get all the parts of the plan and a conference starting the Sunday to come together. Ended up booking my flight down to Orlando for Sat morning and found hotel and flights for about 36 hours in NOLA to make it possible for me to go to Jazz fest for a day

Music was great and I think I missed most of the rain but it was pretty muddy at the grounds and you had to watch where you step when you go for food and some of the food ran out in the afternoon.
Traveling Broadens the mind and I want to do more French Quarter Fest in New Orleans is my favourite festival
