my wife and i have exchanged for thanksgiving week 2008. Is tis a good resort? I have seen some bad reviews and am considrering cancellation. Can some one give me any details of this resort? we are in our mid 60's. We are first time visitors to New Orleans. Any help is deeply appreciated.

If Hoc owns there - it MUST be nice .....

Sometimes reviews that u find online such as on Trip Adviser are written by 'non-TS' people who go to a TS and expect Hotel Type services - daily maid service, many restaurants and services that are not always common in TSs.

So I always try to read those reviews while taking that into consideration.
Now if people are saying the beds are bad or the furniture is dirty or the kitchen had no silverware - that I DO pay attention to!

It was nice when I bought there. Everything seemed to be well maintained, the rooms were large, and they had a nice interior courtyard with a swimming pool. The annex building burnt down in a fire started in the Katrina aftermath. But I understand that the main building was not affected. I am going back to NOLA from Christmas through New Year and will be checking my timeshares then.

But the reason I bought here is that it was a Jazz Fest week, and that the resort is on the shuttle route for the Jazz Fest shuttle, not particularly because of the quality of the resort. In any case, it's a half block from Mother's -- how bad can that be? again.

BTW, I'm posting from Paris (staying at the RHC Hotel Napoleon). Been in Europe for the past 2 weeks, which is why I hadn't seen this sooner.

Hi--just thought I would put in my two cents. My wife and I traded into the Hotel de l'eau Vive about three years ago. We had a 2-BR that was "interesting" to say the least. First of all--by all means GO. Do not give it up. New Orleans is a great, great place for fun with so much to see and do. And your resort is right on the edge of the French Quarter. If you don't mind the exercise, you can walk all over the downtown from your location. We walked everywhere--and also rode the buses and the St. Charles trolley.

But about the "Hotel". First of all--it is old. But that is it's charm. The building has been everything from a miltary barracks (and ammunition storage building) to a house of prostitution in the early 1900's. Plenty of history right there. While it isn't fancy like a Marriott, it is well maintained and clean. The staff are extrmely friendly. All the owners we ran into love it there. Our unit was sort of round. The LR was darker that we would have preferred but the BR's were fine (no TV's). The kitchen was in the center and well stocked. The bathroom was round-including a round shower!!! Like I said, it was interesting. Not bad--just very different. My only complaint was that it seemed very dark. I would have preferred a few more lamps, but we didn't sit around the room all that much anyway. There is so much to see and do in NO that it overrides any minor concerns about the place. And just so you can relate-- wy wife and I are in our early 60's and I don't walk too well (bad knee) and we spend a week or so in NO almost every year. I would stay here again if it was avaialble when we were going. Take it. You'll have a ball!
