What are the top 3 or 4 timeshares in New Orleans? And would early to mid October be a good time to visit?

Everyone will have their own opinion, but I would say pretty much it's Quarter House, Club La Pension and Hotel de L'Eau Vive, not necessarily in that order.
October can be variable. It's hurricane season then, but mostly the temperatures will be moderate (mid-80s or so), but rainy. FWIW, Weather.com lists October as the driest month, but my experience has been that it can be rainy.

Getting Around New Orleans
Q:
Its been a long time since we vacationed in New Orleans
How far is the airport to town
How much does it cost via Cab
Any Hotels offer one night hotel stays with 7-14 day free parking
Do the hotels/timeshares offer complimentary Shuttle Bus Service
Is there a Rental Car Facility with several car rental companies
located in one off site building - or - individual rental agencies
Big_Frank
Where are you staying at in Oct and how do you get around town

Marti I am as Hoc said staying in the Quarterhouse. If you would like to go I am not using my unit all week in fact I have a unit you can have for 6 days.
I know a limo driver I believe I posted Johns # on Hoc's sticky page with all the NOLA info. Anyway he gives me a super good del for airport RT pick ups because we had booked him once for an entire week. He charges me $80 just for me but will charge any member I refer $100 for a real strech limo RT from the airport.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

I know that Glitter refers to him as "Johnny the Limo Guy" in that thread, but I don't think there's any actual contact info there. If you let us know, I'll post it.
