  • Upcoming trip to New Orleans

I am anxious to see how New Orleans fares with this hurricane. We have a trade at the Quarter House for 9/26. Anyone else heading there in the near future?

I will be going to the QH 2 weeks after you. I have my room but did not book my flight yet. I am making sure this weeks hurricane misses.

I'm not scheduled to go until 12/26. Watching that water splashing over the levees and keeping my fingers crossed. . .

My flight has been booked for awhile. We have free tickets because of a major screw up when we traveled in February. I hope we get there!

Frank, I was going to ask you for restaurant suggestions. We have been to NO once before. I think we will forgo the real expensive ones this time. Also, we will be there from Friday AM until Wed AM. So, it is a short stay. Still waiting to see how NO made out with the hurricane.

Make sure to check out the recommendations here. I'll update them after December, when I go back. But for now, a lot of the recommendations on there are moderately priced. Johnny's Po Boys and Mother's are downright cheap (hole-in-the-wall-type places, but incredibly good, and rock-bottom pricing).

Mothers has the best Jambalaya in Nola and Café Maspero has the best red beans and rice. If you need reservations in K Paul's let me know.

Thanks for the suggestions. We went to K Paul last time. Will probably pass this time.

Ann-Marie, now that you're back from NOLA, where did you eat, etc? We're headed there in March 2009 and we could always use some more ideas.

Does anyone ever use restaurant.com certificates in NOLA?

I rather not use them in Nola, There are to many great places to eat and I do not like to miss any, but I will say that Fat wallys with a 2 pound burger does sound interesting. Fat Wally's - Eat. Drink. Save Money.

I don't know. Burgers seem too ordinary a food to have in NOLA. Also, at two pounds, that's probably a whole day's intake for me.

We bought one restaurant .com certificate for Fedi's. We called 3 times, and once they were having a private party, second they were closing early because of lack of enough help, and third because they staff had a dispute with the owner. I just got my money back for the certificate. We ate at Red Fish Grill, and totally enjoyed the fish dinner, and had a great salad and their chocolate bread pudding was also great. Irene's was very good also, small, friendly and good. Went to Mother's and had a combo plate with Jambalaya, red beans and rice and etteffee (sp), and it was very good. Cafe Beignet in my opinion had better beignets than Cafe du Monde. Cafe Maspero for red beans and rice was good. I wrote a review for the Quarter Houe, and included all the places we ate, but I'm not sure if it is posted yet. Enjoy.
