TAKE ACTION TO PREVENT TIMESHARE TAXES IN TENNESSEE

    Dear Tennessee Timeshare Owner,

The Tennessee State Legislature wants to raise taxes on your vacation!

House Bill 4049 and Senate Bill 3931, which – if approved – would impose new taxes on timeshare owners, specifically, a sales tax on a timeshare purchase and a transient occupancy tax (TOT) on your use of a timeshare. It may also be used as a vehicle to tax all exchange guests, a proposition that is bad for both owner and exchanger.

As a Tennessee timeshare owner or the owner of a timeshare in Tennessee (or both), your prompt action to defeat this measure is crucial! The proposed legislation (Senate Bill 3931 in this case) is first scheduled to be heard in the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee April 4, 2006, which puts it one step closer to being passed.

    We must act now!

RCI, other Tennessee timeshare providers and the American Resort Development Association are working to strongly oppose this legislation, but we need your help. We urge you to contact Tennessee’s legislators to make them aware of your opposition. Make your voice heard now by visiting the following Web site: http://capwiz.com/cendant/issues/alert/?alertid=8647441

This is our grassroots website, which will help you identify your legislators and generate a letter of opposition which you can mail, fax or email. If you are not a resident of Tennessee, please include the address of your Tennessee timeshare property where requested on the site.

Your participation as timeshare owners and voters in Tennessee is critical in this process. Tennessee’s leaders must hear that you don’t want to pay any new tax and that you are paying close attention to the outcome.

Again, visit http://capwiz.com/cendant/issues/alert/?alertid=8647441 to identify your state representatives and immediately send them a letter.

    Sincerely,

    Mary Mahoney,
    President, RCI Global Vacation Network

    Tennessee Residents

If you are a resident of Tennessee you need to contact your senator and representatives and let them know how you feel about these proposed bills. This is serious!

A similar bill was defeated in Wisconsin by effort of ARDA and other lobbying by timeshare owners and others.

If this is approved it will have far-reaching effects as other states will follow suite since it will create a revenue stream for state and local governments.

If you live in Tennessee don't assume that others will do the work for you.

Other timeshare owners that own timeshares in Tennessee, contact the Tennessee representative and senator in the area(s) you own and voice your opinion.

I just don't understand why these states want to torpedo their tourism this way!!! Plenty of places in the world to visit, no way I'm coughing up an extra $200 to visit one of these short-sighted states!

That is why we need Tennessee Residents and Tennessee Timeshare owners to contact the state senators and representatives to explain their views. To me it is a no win situation.

I'm going to let my mom and dad know about this. They own at Westgate Smoky Mountains. Are these state governments trying to kill timesharing and timeshare visitors coming to their state? Geesh.
