On the local rental market, it is the lowest demand resort on the OBX, because it is the farthest from the beach. It is in the woods behind the Wal-Mart. They try to make up for that by amenities and it has things like an exercise room. I have visited friends who own there during their week but not stayed there myself, and that was probably 5 years ago. I have noticed that since that time it's award status has declined from GC to SC, and then SC to Hospitality.

At that time of the year you can probably get something closer to the beach if you just wait for it. Of course, if a hurricane shows up, BI-KH is closest to the bridge out of town!

OBX is a great place to visit. It's been a very laid back beach town each time I was there. Plenty of good restaurants in the area. Lots of stuff to do or just lay on the beach and relax if that's your thing...

This is a very nice resort; the three bedroom be prepared to climbs some steps. As already stated this resort is about 3 miles from the beach.

Last year tourism was down on OBX by some 40%; bad economy.

Also, Please bring some bug sprays.

Ken, that's a beautiful resort altho not on the beach, plus the OBX is a great place to take pics. Reserve one day to do all the lighthouses on the Nat'l Seashore and take the ferry to Ocrakoke. It will be a long day but well worth it. shaggy

            Thanks all for the info.
And thanks for the tips Shaggy. Lighthouses are my next favorite photo subject after birds so should be able to get some of each on that trip.

One of the other advantages of the beachfront resorts is that the bug spray is not necessary.

Ken, you are in LUCK!!!! There is a birdwatching area near one of the lighthouses. Don't hold me to this, I think it's called Pea Island Refuge. Also on the other end of the island near your place is Corolla Light, Never been there. shaggy

Corolla Light is one of the two on the OBX that you can climb to the top. The other is Hatteras Light. Ocracoke Light and Bodie Island Light you have to look at from the outside.
