"The debate over the proposal is set to continue in coming weeks. The TRAC subcommittee delayed its scheduled hearing on the proposal for three weeks and moved it from Charleston to Columbia because the room could not accommodate the large number of people expected to attend, said Burnie Maybank, chairman of the overall commission. That meeting will be Oct. 8 in the Gressette Building and is expected to be heated, Maybank said."

A hearing on a controversial proposal to overhaul the state's accommodations tax has been rescheduled for the second time, according to an official.

The Tax Realignment Commission's subcommittee on accommodations and hospitality taxes now will hear testimony on the proposal at 10 a.m. Oct. 7 in Columbia, according to a written statement by Rena Grant, director of legislation with the S.C. House Ways and Means Committee. The proposal includes measures to introduce a tax on time share maintenance fees and change the way accommodations tax revenue is divided.

The meeting will be in room 105 of the Gressette Building. Those who wish to speak at the hearing should contact Grant at renagrant@schouse.gov before Oct. 7. The public can also sign up to speak at the meeting.

The article seems positive, but reading between the lines worries me a little.. Looks like the biggest opposition is to the redistribution of the proceeds. I'd hate to see the locals pledge support of the timeshare tax if the commission agrees to shelve the other parts of the proposal..
