I never get to go into the ocean when I'm on Hilton Head due to the jellyfish that seem to spawn wily-nily and populate the warm waters during summer. Anybody been to HHI in recent weeks who can report on those pesky jellies?

Carol, I know what you mean...when we were at the Marriott Barony Beach a few years back we swam but we eventually got stung...that was at the end of July early August. The water was pretty murky too. No big plans to head back anytime soon...but the Marriott and area was beautiful....great trip.
Is the water ever clear or is is always murky?"If a Nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.... If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed."
-- Thomas Jefferson to Col. Yancey, 1816

Box Jellyfish are very common in all water bodies and regularly swarm to Hawaii's South and West Shores 8 to 10 days after the full moon. Box Jellyfish "Carybdea alata" cause the most "trouble" for humans in Hawai`i. Don't go into areas where sighted, or if dead ones are seen on the beach. Observe all posted warning signs. Symptoms of a sting include stinging, burning, redness, swelling of lymph nodes and in cases of severe reactions may result in difficulty with breathing, symptoms of shock and cardiac arrest.

I was bitten last year in HH by a man of war jelly fish. I had symptoms that lasted over a month and I had to see a doctor to get a topical cream afterwards. Next time if I hear that there are jelly fish in the water I will hit the pool instead.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

Jellyfish At Hilton Head Island
Just came back last nite from a week at HHI. Went swimming for a few hours one day and did not see or feel any jellyfish in the water. However, when we were walking along the beach one nite we did see a small one in a pool of water.
