Barrier Island Station t/s developer dies

Paul Shaver, developer of Barrier Island Station - Duck and Barrier Island Station - Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks, and subsequent developer (he bought it from the original developer when it was over 3/4 sold out) of Ocean Pines, died yesterday on his farm in Virginia after breaking his neck in an ATV accident. He was 65.

I was sorry to see your post and my sympathy and condolences go to the Shaver family.
My wife and I are owners at Barrier island station at Kitty Hawk and have been pleased with the way the resort has been managed. Mr. Shaver was the chairman of the board and he was always very responsive and friendly when we would see him at the yearly owners meetings. I am saddened to hear of his terrible accident.

I didn’t realize that he was the owner of the Black Pelican restaurant. Now I know why the barrier island owner meetings were held there.
