The Grove Park Inn is a great place to stay, and after Labor Day they often have specials. Really awesome swimming pool grotto there. Asheville is wonderful!"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed and those who are cold and are not clothed."
-- Dwight D. Eisenhower

North Carolina Apple Festival
The 2007 North Carolina Apple Festival
marks the 61st consecutive year the event has been held.
The Apple Festival is held on Labor Day Weekend each year
(Friday through Monday) to recognize the importance of the
apple and the apple industry to Henderson County and NC.

The question would be, where are all the apples coming from? Western NC had an Easter freeze this year and apples are in short supply. My 3BR comes with 80+ apple trees of about 10 varieties, not a single apple this year! Was by Hendersonville on Wednesday, no Cat and no Lucky anywhere..... not enough time for all the timeshares Ā®

Asheville to Lake Lure
Greetings from Fairfield Mountains check in lobby at Lake Lure
Drover I-240, I-40 East to Route 9 - Over a Mountain - then
Left on Route 64 - past beautiful Chimney Rock - past beach
The beach cost $8.00 per person (wow) and they do offer
Pontoon Boat Rentals and Pontoon Rides for a fee.
The roads are terrible and we are just here for the day
checking out the resort.. (For a future stay or purchase)
The lobby is cute and has a couple of black bears and a
fireplace with one computer. Nice front porch to sit on.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Weekend

Directions from Lake Lure to I-40 W to Asheville & E to Hickory
The Lake Lure area is beautiful
It is not a easy drive to get to
Didn`t see any major grocery chains
Just a small conv. store behind the
Fairfield/Wyndham Check-In Building
Be sure to bring food/groceries
and start with a full tank of gas
Here are some (back road) directions to get (back) onto I-40
I am copying the directions from the map I received at the front desk.
We manage to get back onto I-40 - but what a scenic drive!
Take a right out of the resort parking area onto Buffalo Creek Road.
At the stop sign turn left onto Bills` Creek Road.
Continue on Bills` Creek Road for approx. seven miles to stop sign.
Turn left onto Cove Road (Cove Road turns into Sugar Hill Road)
Continue on Cove Rd/Sugar Hill Rd (approx seven miles) to stop sign.
At stop sign turn left and continue on Sugar Hill Road for approx
four miles to I-40.
Here you can take I-40, West to Asheville and/or East to Hickory NC
There are no gas stations or stores on this route until you reach I-40!
This little side trip cost us a lot of time and I doubt if we will
ever return. Too far from anything & the roads are not good.

Isolated Area?
Didn`t see any major grocery chains
Just a small conv. store behind the
Fairfield/Wyndham Check-In Building
You said there are not any grocery stores close to the resort....what about restaurants? We will be there in Oct and just wondering how much food we should plan on packing. We do like to eat out in the evenings and check out different restaurants.
