  • How popular is Memorial Week in South Carolina?

    I'm trying to book our 2008 week at our resort. I have an opportunity to book Memorial week. Being from Canada, I have no idea how popular this holiday is. Outside of summer time, would this be a good/popular week? Is it worthwhile considering for trading or renting? The resort is on a plantation/golf course and not the beach.

    Memorial Week most kids are still in school. The really prime weeks in Myrtle Beach would be from about 2-3 weeks later and no later than 08-22. Even that is not that great. If you want a good renter get 1 of the 2 bike weeks in Myrtle Beach - May 11 - 20, 2007 and October 3-7 for the Fall Rally and in 2008; May 9-18 and Oct. 1-5 these dates are avail at;

    Check with your resort as each resort has specific rules or special deposits during the bike weeks. Good luck

      Gordon I think Memorial Day week would be quite popular. Many of our southern states begin their school summer vacations at the end of May or the first week of June. Among them are GA, NC and FL.

      Here are the responses from when I first asked that question:

      <see now you have reminded me of a project I had put on a back-burner here. Gee thanks. >

      It is also before it gets unbearably humid and hot.

      I'm sure others with better knowledge of the area and conditions of the golf courses will respond.

        Memorial Day Weekend in the states is a very popular travel week in the US and for all intentions is looked at as the beginning of the summer while Labor Day in the very beginning of September is the end of the summer.
        I am from New England and although our children are still in elementary/secondary school until mid -late June depending on how many snowstorms we encounter. Our colleges start mid to late August and get out in May.
        Memorial Day is a big travel weekend with the prior Friday to the following Monday holiday being the heaviest traffic.

        We often travel during that week and are headed to Marco Island FL this time but have been to Hilton Head SC during that week and enjoyed wonderful weather and before the summer crowds..

          If you're looking to deposit it and want a week with top trade power, I wouldn't pick that one. I go to HHI alot during Memorial Day week, because it's so easy for me to exchange in. I live in Georgia and kids here get out of school right before Memorial Day weekend, but frankly families don't vacation that much then. They seem to like to go in late summer when it's hotter than Hades and the beach is seen as a lifesaver. So, try for a July or August week.

            It's Bike Week in Myrtle Beach. Very noisy and crowded but if you like that-it's a good time to go.

              We were at Sheraton Broadway this past Memorial Day week. Bike week ended on the Sunday before Memorial day, the roads were a bit clogged that first weekend but I suspect that they are clogged every weekend after that, too. Restaurants were not crowded. There were some families with kids at the resort but I would say they were in the minority.
