Take it. We saw the OBBC II refurbed units while we were down there in June. The rooms are a little on the small side but very nicely done. Master bath is very nice.

I think only the sunday check-in is on the other side of the beach road but I don't think the majority of units would have an ocean view there as the dunes are quite high .

We would stay there in a heartbeat even with the Sunday check-in..

Friday check-in is on the other side of the road. As for a view, you may get a slight view of the ocean view from the back row if you are not on the first level.

Thanks...yes, it says on RCI website that the Fridays are across the road -so even if it doesn't have an ocean view, I prefer to be on the beach side - and it happens we want the Sunday check-in as we traditionally attend a party that weekend on Saturday - mapquest says it is 10 hours plus a few minutes so that is about my limit in terms of a one day drive - HHI would be 14-15 hours....not want I want to do sooooooo...I am going to take it!

It was on my PIDKIWTGTBD ('places I didn't know I wanted to go to but do') list - thanks to Lawren's trip there

Pat-OBX is very nice. Went last year May 2006(review posted for Golden Strand). The water was cold in late May. It's different from HH or MB. Drive to Corolla and Duck, the newer areas of OBX and take the 4WD ride to see the horses on the beach. Corolla is different than Nags Head,Kitty Hawk area. Eat at Dirty Dicks and have a nice luncheon at The Bread Co. I don't know if some things close down off season like Cape Cod though. There were a few grocers on the island. Lots of farmers markets driving to the island that were wonderful.

Restaurants and shops will be open in October. That is the height of the fishing season.

I would also recommend taking a day to drive south to Ocracoke.

Thanks pc and Carolinian - I appreciate your input - yes, I was looking for restaurant and 'day trip' suggestions....thanks!
Is there a particular supermarket we should stop at as we are arriving on a Sunday probably between 5 and 6 pm - will they be open?
I have never been to HHI and MB - picked this because of the driving distance.

We owned a home in Duck for many years and the Outer Banks ranks high on my list of favorite places.

October is a great time of year there..crowds are gone...its just beautiful.

Don't miss Awful Arthurs for great seafood. For a special night, head up to the Sanderling Inn for dinner in Duck. If you like great wine selections Elizabeth's Cafe is the place to go.

                Enjoy- its a wonderful place.
