  • Christmas in Myrtle Beach

We are heading down to MB on December 26...have never been there in the winter and are looking for suggestions for things to do, since our usual activity (surf & sun) will probably not be an option. I'd love to hear folks' thoughts/suggestions. We'll be at the Marriott Ocean Watch Villas.

    Thank you in advance!

I've always wanted to spend xmas in MB. The xmas shows will be at all the theaters, there will be tons of lights, great sales at Barefoot Landing and other stores. The seafood will still be great. You should not run out of things to do. shaggy

Back before retirement, I used to go to Myrtle Beach during my Christmas break. The weather is unpredictable. It could be 30 and it could be 75. I always found plenty to do regardless of the weather. Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach run some great after Christmas sales. There are holiday shows and lots of Christmas decorations to delight the eyes and best of all the traffic is pretty light. Some of the restaurants that cater to the summer crowds may be closed.

I was there the second week of January this year and enjoyed sitting outside at Margaritaville. The temps were in the 70's and it was gorgeous. This Christmas the new park at the Hard Rock down by the old Wachovia Mall will be open and it looks like it's going to be interesting for music lovers of all ages. Seems to me that from a music standpoint they are catering to the babyboomers and younger.

I've got reservations at Myrtle Beach in April, again in May, June and July and late September this year. Obviously I like Myrtle Beach. I live about 4 hours away on the other side of the State.

Maggie - Are there any shows you recommend? We have been going to MB for about 3 years now, but never to a show. We have a 5 year old who is very well behaved and loves music.

Both the shows that Shaggy mentioned have special Holiday versions. (At least they usually do). Also the Dixie Stampede show and dinner is very interesting at least once. I went to the Christmas Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge and really enjoyed it, but it's not the type thing I'd do more than once in a lifetime.

We were there for New Years 12/29 week. Sheraton Broadway at the Beach has great fireworks at 8pm NY eve. It was in the 60's.

There is still a lot to do. Shows close for the season after New Years. Ripleys has an aquarium.

Mini golf places some are open and some close for the season. We walked the beach.
There is a new Hard Rock amusement park and a new shopping village The Market Place opening this spring plus two outlet malls. Many places to eat of all price points.

For New Years we ate at RIOZ, a braziian prix fix steakhouse. 15 varying meats on skewers and other foods. Terrific service.. What an experience. It is worth the splurge. Behind Planet Hollywood. Rioz Brazilian Steakhouse - Myrtle Beach, SC
