  • Flights to Myrtle Beach

Where do people usually fly into when going to Myrtle Beach?

  • #2
I have been there twice, both times were into MYR. I think I heard Wilmington, NC (ILM) and then driving may be a better (less costly) way to go.

It looks as flights there from MSP are either seasonal, or pretty much gone.

      Atlanta, GA Airport

It is a 5 1/2 hour drive from Atlanta Airport. There are lots of flights into Atlanta.

I suppose that if you're going to fly into Atlanta, you might as well look at Savanah, GA or Charleston, NC as well.

I had thought about purchasing a week at Marriott's Ocean Watch but, I hate flying and then having to drive a couple of hours just to get to our destination, let alone when we have to go home having to drive a couple of hours to an airport. The airport at Myrtle Beach is cost prohibitive for us to fly into. For the price of flying to Myrtle Beach I can fly to south Florida twice.

Myrtle Beach Airport - Code - MYR

          Myrtle Beach - International Airport
1100 Jetport Road, just south of 501
off Highway 17 Bypass Myrtle Beach

          Myrtle Beach Car Rentals
          ACE - Alamo - Avis - Budget - Hertz - Sears - Thrifty

The car rental agencies at the airport are conveniently
located at the front of the terminal by baggage claim.
There are also several car rental companies located outside
the terminal at different locations along the Grand Strand.

My husband occasionally flies into MB at the MB airport. It's small, lovely and centrally located. You can get direct flights from Philadelphia on USAIRWAYS for a decent price. You can also fly from Atlantic City, NJ, DIRECT (can't recall the airline..might be jetblue?). Anyway, there are always deals to be had!

Just to give a reference, I picked a week in Oct and found these prices from Minneapolis to Myrtle Beach or nearby airports:
              MSP to MYR (Myrtle Beach)
Cheapest flight $577 with 2 stops, Milwaukee, Philadelphia to Myrtle.
One stop flight-$744 with Mpls to Phili, then to Myrtle

MSP to ILM (Wilmington, NC-about an hour drive)
One stop $390 stopping in Phili, then to Wilmington.

MSP to CLT (Charlotte, NC-about a 2?? hour drive)
Two stops, $402, Chicago, Cleveland then Charlotte.

              Just for reference only.

Based on that, next time I got to Myrtle, one of my favorite March choices, it will be Wilmington for me.

If you go to Wilmington, see the USS North Carolina, and think about being in that ship in WW2. Think of the heat from the steam, the guns going off over your head, sleeping in a bunk that someone else has just left, and your view below deck is gray or brown. I could not stop think of my father, his life in the Navy, and how little I knew about it. He died when I was 13, so I lost a father, and his experience. I know that was off topic, but if you can walk well and take stairs, see that ship.

We were looking to go the end of February, 2009. The only flights I saw on Kayak was over 700 USD. We would probably drive from Nashville, but sisters in laws would need to fly from MSP.

I plugged Feb 09 into Orbitz (not the cheapest, but a reference) and found tickets to Wilmington for $425. Anything to Myrtle airport is going to be higher. It would be cheaper to fly into Wilmington, rent a car and drive to Myrtle.

For any search, be sure to 'search nearby airports' to find your best rates.

We have a place in Charleston SC and have driven to Myrtle Beach a couple of times. Not a bad drive so check fares into CHS.

                      Cheers
