Like the Old Bern, but newer.

Having been to the old Bern (actually Berne) in Switzerlnad, which was the home of the Swiss count who founded New Bern and named it for his hometown, I would beg to differ that they have much in common.

New Bern is a great place to spend a day or pershaps a weekend, but I would not spend an entire week there.

IMO it's a nice place to stop and have lunch, on the way to somewhere else.

DW and I go to New Bern for our anniversary just about every year. Like others have said, it's a very sleepy town. It has a few attractions for us.
              • Very relaxing
              • Cheap golf. Not the best of courses sometimes.
              • Cheap accommodations. I can get in there almost any time I want through skyauction.com for $200.
              • Because it's so cheap we often go for just 4 or 5 days.

I've often wondered why anybody would build a TS there let alone 2 or 3 developers. With 4 or 5 TS resorts it's overbuilt You can get weeks there for practically nothing. But why bother.

New Bern is also a good example of how the RCI Points system uses developer politicking rather than supply and demand in its points tables. Look at the resorts there that are in points and compare the point values with hard to get beach locations. I have seen where a blue week from New Bern in points would have enough points to get a prime summer beach week at a Weeks resort through the generic crossover grids, which is totally unfair to Weeks.

Spent a Week in NB and loved it !

I guess we are the exception to all that have posted on this thread. We spent a week at Waterwood Townhouses in New Bern and had a great time. Of course we are "seasoned citizens" in our 70s and maybe that has something to do with it. We enjoyed the Tryon Palace and all the history in NB. We went to the beach for the day and had great seafood. It was a really relaxing trip and we would like to go back again. We would have made the trip to the Outer Banks, which is a really special area, but we have been several times in the past.

Another plus for us is we live in North Carolina and with gas the way it is that is a help for us. We are Bluegreen Owners and there are a lot of resorts in a pretty short distance from our home in Charlotte,NC.

I foiund Nw Bern to beoverrated

I'm sorry but I have found that New Bern to be extremely overrated with a lot of pomp and circumstance. It's just my opinion, I know. I see people raving about it all the time but it's just to guishy for me.

                      Nice older resort

Wyndham Resort at Fairfield Harbour is an older but clean resort near the water. We stayed there for the weekend a few years ago and like most Wyndham properties are well maintained and clean.

Pepsi was first served at the little drug store in New Bern. It is a quiet little town situated near the southern end of the Outer Banks.

I would go back again for a quiet get-away.

I'm not a big fan of New Bern either but it is a very relaxing place. I toured it once and thought it was in the middle of nowheresville. A lot of people buy there to retire.

Glitter, I KNOW you are coming to visit me in the Pokeynos in Oct.

                        Hugs, shaggy
