  • What's New Bern like?

I am surprised at how many matches I am getting to New Bern for end of August... what's it like there? What are the draws as a vacation spot?

Could this be another destination gem I'd have never tried but for timeshare? Or am I getting so many matches b/c summer is offseason for the attractions there?

Hurricane Season in NC - Late August - Early to Mid Sept

New Bern, the second oldest town in North Carolina,

is situated where the Trent and Neuse Rivers meet.

New Bern abounds with history around every corner with over 150 historic landmarks,
the magnificent Tryon Palace, Birthplace of Pepsi and a 157,000-acre national forest.

We have visited Historic New Bern but never stayed in a NBNC timeshare
Appears to be a more relaxing area than Virginia Beach or Myrtle Beach

New Bern, NC is a place you go for total R & R and Quiet Time.

The historic part of the city is very nice. Tryon Palace and 4 or 5 restored homes are open all year. If you are there the right time in the spring, there is a great historic homes tour of private residences. Not a place, I would spend an entire week, however.

It is a 45 minute drive to Atlantic Beach.

Thanks, all. Doesn't sound like I will be adding New Bern to my travel plans... the multitude of available exchanges is making sense.... though the historic homes sound lovely and would seem to place the location above the Poconos (sorry, Wacky, couldn't resist...)

            Ok, someone just dared me:

            What's New Bern like?

Like the Old Bern, but newer.

But you have to GET THERE! The Poconos are just moments away on convenient high-speed Route 80. New Bern is nine hours and forty minutes of driving excitement from me, probably another hour or so from you.

New Bern is less than an hour for me. It would be an R&R because there is not much happening week after week in the area. I would think this would be a location that would be used for family reunions or to visit family that lives in the area and have a place of your own while you are there......

As I drove by on the way to Atlantic beach the last time, I said why would anyone build a timeshare here.

                        So I've heard.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

                          New Bern

I have friends that move there (and retired) several years ago that love the town. I've visited them a few times and enjoyed the weekends I've stayed there, but that seemed long enough for me.

ps. I had a co-worker, in DC, that loved to go to New Bern. Easy timeshare exchange and about 4 or 5 hours from DC.
