  • Daytona 500 2010? Unit on 24 hr hold

Kelli wants to really go to the Daytona 500 next Feb. and I have found one unit available. Vacation Village at Parkway check in on Friday the 12 which would enable us to go Sat & Sunday. How long would it take me to get there from Kissimmee or I could spend the night at my ex mother in law. Is this a smart move or should I try to get a week in Daytona /Ormond/New Smyrna. At this point I see nothing and I couldn't fathom owning that week and depositing it with rci. Do I forget the race or go for it? shaggy

I would say about 1.5 hrs drive or even less if you are a faster driver than I am as long as you don't hit too bad traffic on Interstate 4. You have about 50 miles on there but shouldn't be bad on a weekend.

We own at Cocunut Palms II in New Smyrna. It is a float 1 BR. As soon as Sept 1st rolls around I get on phone wait the hour to get to customer service and either book Daytona or Bike week and promply deposit with II. II loves the week and gives me an AC for it. Just telling you this - because there are weeks that to show up for exchange....you just need to be first in line to get it!

I went ahead and took it for a couple of reasons. Kelli really wants to go plus the resort is nice. It is a Friday checkin which will give us a couple of days for Daytona . Being in Orlando Kelli will get to see her Dad & grandmother and we can go to Sea World ( no Disney this time) I wish it was a 2 br but as Kelli said I don't care if I have to sleep on the floor. She gets the couch.

I'm only with RCI and yes there may be some deposits which will go to those with higher trading power or on going searches so I'll take it just for Kelli.

Thanks to all who helped. shaggy

Did you get 1 bed or 2 bed? 1 bed with full kitchen is the only way to go at VV Parkway. Do not trust mapquest for directions to Daytona, mapquest VV Parkway to Sanford and Sanford to Daytona you can make it in less than 1.5 hours except Daytona 500 traffic. I have seen 3 bears on this route and one during Daytona week. Be sure to stop off for some hot boiled Peanuts in route. MMMM MMM good.

Hi Shaggy, everyone is right it's about 2 hours from Kissimeee, but the traffic will be very bad that weekend. Hours on I4 (I live in Orlando) .... I have a timeshare available in Daytona Beach. Take a look you can make an offer if you want. Take care... Mike

I just deposited with II my Coconut Palms in New Smyrna yesterday with II. It is for Daytona week. I assume it wouldn't not make it to available units to grab - but you can check. Also, don't know if it take a day or two to show up. I assume they have to confirm with the resort first. Good Luck!
