Myrtle Beach is about an hour from Wrightsville Beach..... Are you wanting to know what to do in Wrightsville Beach?

We are spending a week in Mrytle Beach and two days in Wrightsville Beach. There are four older adults.

We will be in Myrtle starting March 14 for our third time.

At Myrtle, you may want to do Legends in Concerts (have done it once, may go back again this time), The One-at Alabama theater (never been there), Le Grande Cirque (did that last time, good but once you have seen it...), Medievil Times (did it, not worth my time to do it again), Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach are both interesting places to check out. I have heard good things about the Ripley's Aquarium. A great sculpture and flower/plant visit is Brookgreen Garden. It isn't a bad drive and I think worth the trip. Your tickets can be used on multiple days, so go twice if you didn't see everything.

If you go north to Wilmington, there is a great retired WWII ship on display, USS North Carolina. We are going to Moores Creek Battlefield this year. When you marry a history teacher, you see historical sites.

If you go to Charleston (kind of a drive) you can see Fort Moultry and some other historical areas. Lot of history in that area.

There really is a lot in the Mytle Beach area, and it all depends on what type of adventures you like.

The WWII battleship USS North Carolina at Wilmington is well worth seeing. Wilmington also has a nice historic district with some houses that can be toured. A river sightseeing boat trip is also fun.

Yes, IMO Ripley's is a wonderful aquarium and very worth the entry fee, I've been 2 or 3 times. There's a shark tunnel you walk or glide through, my favorite area, and a stingray tank (where you can pet them as they swim by if you care to) plus numerous other exhibits.

There's an IMAX theater in the same shopping center, Broadway At the Beach, and we always find something we like on their schedule.

House of Blues has an excellent Sunday gospel brunch, and/or evening acts that are sometimes good, and the restaurant area has "outsider art" on display. Medieval Times was fun to do once. I haven't been to Le Grande Cirque, but have been to some less-than-great acts at Myrtle Beach that were knock-offs of better more famous productions and were disappointing.

Figure out how much money you want to spend then decide which shows you want to see. Things can add up quickly.

I limited my visits to the buffets and did 4 shows when I was there. Look into discounts that residents get. Someone might be able to save you some money.

If you find yourself in No Myrtle Beach (main street) there are lots of good shag (dance) clubs. My fav nice rest is the Sea Captains House and my fav dumpy rest is Hoskins - main st No Myrtle Beach near the shag clubs.

I agree about the historic area of downtown Wilmington /Wrightsville Beach and the battleship NC is a must see. Depending on the temps altho I think it's going to be to early Airilee Gardens in Wilmington is gorgeous, esp with the azaleas blooming.

One thing I think is worth mentioning about the ship; if you plan on seeing the whole ship where it is allowed, wear tennis shoes or good flat shoes. If you don't walk well, you may want to stay above deck. Some of the areas (as I remember) were just (wish I could think of the proper term) like metal grill work, open areas. I kept thinking of my father who I believe was on a similar type ship working the boiler. Awful condition, hot, noisy, no where to be alone. But it was men like him, and those that served in that ship, that have kept this country free.

On the river front in Wilmington there is a horse and carriage ride and the Henrietta Riverboat. Not sure when they start the cruises again, but they do have a website. At UNC-W (university in Wilmington) they have a theater and might have a play going - check on their website. On the waterfront in Wilmington there are some wonderful eating places. Elijah's is the first one that comes to mind.
Moore's Creek (someone mentioned in a earlier thread) goes back to the Revolutionary War - is where a very short battle took place. I think it is a national park. Not much there unless you are into the history. It is about 45 minutes from Wilmington - but depends on where you start from. Moore's Creek is out in the middle of no where - very rural area, but direction signs are posted.

Sounds as Moore's Creek could be skipped without missing much. That would save me a lot of driving.

Can you give me the names and addresses of the shag clubs? We will be at
                            Shorecrest I in March.
                            Thanks, Sylvia

                              1. If interested, Myrtle Beach is the Mini Golf Capital of the World! Incredible courses with big ships, volcanos, holes with 15 ft drops etc. (You get the picture)
                              "REAL" GOLF IS AWESOME TOO!

                              2. When considering buffets, if you like crab legs, go to a buffet that includes them. Most of the buffets have almost everything but for some crab legs are a la carte (additional $$$). They are a little more up front but if you like crab legs it is well worth it.
