Images: Heavy Rains Flood Georgia Six Flags - Photos - WDSU New Orleans

The link above takes you to photos and a story about the current Atlanta flooding (it's from a tv station in New Orleans). I'm sure this is covered in Atlanta as well, but I get alerts for New Orleans as it's a bigger timeshare city.

WOW! Looks bad. I lived in Cape Girardeau, MO for many years and experienced several floods including the Mississippi River Flood of 1993. They sure have a lot of work ahead of them to recover. Our prayers are with the people of GA.

I grew up along the Suwannee River and every few years it would flood. The problems remain long after the water recedes, with both property damage and health concerns. There would be mosquito swarms for what seemed like ever- and septic issues were always a monster.. Eye and skin infections were common for months after.

It always amazed me each time to see people wading through the standing water without protective clothing, or even worse- watching their kids splashing around.

The only positive thing I remember is that when the water first started to draw back, there were always pockets of flooding where you could seine for fish which was fun. A local group would always spend a wknd restocking local ponds and transporting fish back to the river.
