  • Just Booked Camelback Resort in Scottsdale

Anybody got any favorite recommendations for things to see and do in Scottsdale. We don't have kids and are in our 60's. We like art, music, theater and beautiful landscapes. We don't golf (well, that is.)

Any recommendations for day trip purveyors?

    Favorite (economical/casual) restaurants?

If you have stayed at this resort, can you recommend buildings to request or avoid? We have a 2BR reserved.

The SCR reservations staff are very good. Ask for a unit away from Camelback Road or Invergordon. They have some 2-br units that back onto both of these streets which makes your patio very noisy. If you are checking into a D unit (Friday check-in) you won't have a problem, only the A units (Saturday check-in) are the ones that back onto streets.

As for what to see and do, Scottsdale is like Disneyland for 60-year olds! Be sure to take in the Desert Botanical Gardens, maybe a Diamondbacks baseball game, the Borgata Shopping Centre, My Sister's Closet if you like consignment stores, Papago Park, I could go on and on. I'm sure others will add suggestions.

Thanks for the information on units. I will definitely do as you say since most of the complaints in reviews on this destination center around noise in the unit.

Also thanks for the tip on consignment shops. My wife loves going to thrift shops and consignment shops. We have picked up some intersting artwork at these in our travels--among other "treasures."

If you have a Sat check in I do know that units A12 & A13 are at the back away from Camelback Road. We have stayed in both units. As EAL mentioned if you have a Friday check in you will be in a D unit so it won't matter. We discovered a new Mexican restaurant called the Carlsbad Tavern which is not to far from the resort. We purchased a restaurant.com certificate and they gave us a 20% off coupon to use if we went back again the next week. We enjoyed it so much and since we were there for 3 weeks we went back.

(I have moved this thread from Pacific NW to Southwest forum)....

You will have plenty of all your "likes" to choose....depending on your timing, there are plays, symphonies, and art shows, and museums are plentiful!

The Scottsdale area has some lovely restaurants. One of our favorites is Flo's Asian Kitchen at Scottsdale Rd. and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. In the Pinnacle Shopping area.

The Borgata is close to your resort, and Cosanti is a short drive.

If you haven't been to the Grand Canyon, you can find tour companies who do day trips, or drive yourself....it is about a 4 to 4 1/2 hour drive from Scottsdale to the South Rim.

Sedona is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Scottsdale, and is also a great day trip!
Life is short, live it with this awareness.
