  • Hello again, and an update on Sedona

Hi, all! We are back from vacation, and have a quick update on the road conditions in Sedona.

Most of the roundabouts are installed....the majority of the roads are complete on Hwy179, except near the Tlaquepaque area and Hillside. News is that they expect to have it all completed by mid August.

Still slow going when there is very heavy traffic, but it is all moving, with very few interruptions by construction.

Roundabouts do require alert and courteous driving. The roundabouts are so frequent in some stretches you can get dizzy!

Happy and safe driving to you all.

Oh, and temps are racing in the 90s to 100s from Phx to Sedona.....with little rain in sight.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

    Uggggh.

Roundabouts. That great new solution to traffic lights.

My city is putting them everywhere. I almost got killed in one the other day when this guy just didn't think the yield sign was for him.

I understand the making everyone slow down thing and saving on traffic lights, but I think my city has gone overboard with these annoying things.

    They are popping up everywhere.

Sad to see this disease is spreading all over the country.

Roundabouts have been around for years and years.

I know a lot of areas in the US aren't used to them, but they are cheaper to install and maintain than traffic lights, reduce traffic build up, AND studies have shown that even when implemented here in the US they result in far fewer accidents than traffic lights.

Roundabouts and a short list of things to do

I agree on the usefulness of a roundabout. I liked it a lot and wish we had more of these everywhere.

When all of us follow rules, we need very little monitoring and end up reaching the destination with least amount of time spent waiting for a green light.

We were in Sedona earlier in Summer and had a good time overall. We entered Sedona well past midnight (after the evening show in Vegas). I did not pay attention to the posted speed limits, ended up getting a warning ticket(1st one in 25 years of driving).

We stayed in Sedona and here is what we did:
-Hot Air balloon ride (Not sure if it is worth the $ spent)
-Jeep Tour (Don't be the jeep behind the 1st one)
                -Slide Rock Park
                -Tuzigoot/Montezuma Castle/Jerome/Verde Canyon Ride
                -Drive through the scenic roads

Take binoculars with you and of course a camera. Bug spray is not a bad idea. For a 1st time visitor, plan on spending 4-5 days.

                Paul
