I would like to visit San Antonio for our Spring Break which starts April 2. I know that I don't have a good enough trader (Celebrity Orlando II, week 25), to get a trade in San Antonio through II, but I did see in Platinum Interchange an exchange to Perennial Vacation Club at Bandera and also Eckhert Place (which I believe is more residential - reviews were not too friendly). We would do the normal day trips like, Seaworld, Riverwalk, Alamo, and would be open to other adventures. It would 2 adults and a 11 year old. Is Bandera a good starting point, any advice appreciated? Any comments on Perennial would be great too. I did look at expedia to see what hotels, cost, etc. for hotels on the Riverwalk, it was a bit pricey for just a room.

Bandera is a cute town, with lots to do, like tubing down the river and horseback riding, but is not all that close to San Antonio. To get to the Riverwalk and other downtown attractions, it would be close to an hours drive. Eckhert place is in an okay location, and if you are going to spend most of your time in town, is probably a better choice.

We stayed at The Bandera Homestead last year. Same resort as Perenniel Club. It is a small resort. We were in a very nice one bedroom unit, very roomy and enjoyed our stay. I am not sure of the 2 bedroom layouts but I think they are different in different buildings. The 2 bedroom units are on the second floor and the 2 bedroom units on the side where we were at had the second bedroom as a loft but I don't think all the 2 bedrooms were like that. There are two nice pools connected with a small waterfall and a hot tub. The units had jaccuzzis, washer/dryers plenty of supplies. Free wifi is in the registration/activity building. TV reception was a big problem, no cable. After we checked out on Saturday morning we went in town to watch the Bandera Cattle Drive Parade which was fun. It was Labor Day Weekend. There are activities going on all the time. Check out the Bandera website for schedules.

Perennial Vacation Club 2BR units have 1 King BR on the main level, along with the living area, kitchen, and a bathroom. The living area has a sleeper sofa. The 2nd floor has a bedroom (2 twin beds from what I remember) and a loft area with another sleeper sofa. The bathroom on the 2nd floor is accessible from both the bedroom and the loft area. So the unit is a 2 BR sleeps 8 (my experience was Platinum Interchange considers this an upgrade over a 2 BR sleeps 6 deposit so the exchange fee is ~$100 more than the standard fee). We were pleased with the unit which was decorated in a 'ranch' theme.
PVC is a small resort (32 units?) and it's located 4 miles or so from Bandera overlooking a normally dry river bed. We saw deer or other wildlife just about every night driving to/from the resort. It is a drive into San Antonio, particularly to downtown. Fiesta Texas on the north side of San Antonio was about 35 minutes away. If you want to spend most of your vacation in San Antonio this may not be the best choice. PVC will work well if you want to enjoy the Texas hill country with some day trips into San Antonio.
