I second the Boudros' restaurant recommendation. A link to their website: Boudros: A Texas Bistro on the Riverwalk

An excellent Mexican restaurant downtown but not on the Riverwalk is Rosario's. Some say this is the best Mexican food in San Antonio, near the historic King William district. San Antonio Mexican Restaurant : Rosario's Restaurant y Cantina

Another post mentioned the Mexican restaurant at the Market Square with a bakery. I also recommend it. The name of it is Mi Tierra and here's a link for it. It's open 24 hours a day.

    Mi Tierra Restaurant & Bakery

A good italian restaurant on the Riverwalk is Paesanos. Italian Restaurants in San Antonio, Texas (TX) | Banquet Facilities | Private Dining

Another good Mexican restuarant - but now downtown - it's on the NW side of town is La Fogata.

    You'll enjoy San Antonio!

A few fun day trips from San Antonio

Gruene: about 1/2 hr N of San Antonio on IH35. Nice old town with many cute shops, Gruene Hall, billed as Texas' oldest dance hall, and the Gristmill Restaurant, which is in an old gristmill nestled in the trees along the Guadalupe River. beautiful setting, great food. This might not be very ADA friendly, but if you can do it, it is well worth the trip. This wouldn't be too far from the Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Ranch, and could be combined into one trip. The New Braunfels/ Gruene area has a few wineries that have tastings and tours as well. We just did the Texas Sphere Ride a few miles N of Gruene on IH35, which is a giant inflatable ball that 2 people can be strapped inside and rolled down a hill. This was fun, if you have a strong stomach. Go before the Gristmill, not after.

Fredericksburg: a few hours into the hill country. Nice antiques and some good restaurants. It can get pretty crowded when the weather is nice.

You mentioned the accordion festival. This will be held at La Villita, on the Riverwalk. This was San Antonio's first settlement for the Spanish soldiers stationed at the Alamo, and in 1836 was the site of General Santa Ana's cannon line in the Battle of the Alamo. It is now an artsy area with craft and art shops.

The Mercado (Market Square) is the mexican marketplace. It is a good place for souvineers, and has a few restaurants. It can get crowded and noisy if there is an event there. It has a few restaurants, which are pretty popular with tourists. I don't care for these as much as some others, but if you don't mind mariachis, you might like them. I prefer Rosario's, mentioned in the previous post.
