  • Now there is a fire in the Flagstaff area

There is a current fire blazing, called the Woody Wildfire just west of the city of Flagstaff. This afternoon they had to close off Rte. 66 and one lane of the Interstate 40.

Fire crews have responded quickly and the fire is currently estimated to be around 200 acres...the winds peaked at 58 mph gusts, averaging 24. The forecast for Thursday is not predicting high winds, but there is also no promise of rain or humidity in the forecast either.

If you have a TS exchange in the Flagstaff area...such as Fairfield, do not be alarmed as that resort is near the east side of Flagstaff.

The residents of some small developments have been evacuated near the fire, and other residents have been told to prepare for evacuation if the fire speeds up or crowns (that is when the fire leaps to high tops of pines and hops from tree top to tree top).

Snow Bowl, Lowell Observatory are out of danger at this time, but crews are preparing to safeguard them further if it is necessary.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the firefighters, families and residents of the area. If the fires continue at this pace, our firefighting crews will be pretty strained.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

katiemack, I just returned from Naples this past Wednesday and up until Alberto blew in (thanks for waiting until I was on vacation LOL) Florida was having alot of fires also and the locals were welcoming all the rain. I am assuming that Arizona is dealing with drought conditions also??

Welcome back home, Laurie....sorry about Alberto...but I hope your trip was still a good one. My sister lives in JAX, and she had reported that there are drought conditions and fires there too.

Yes, most definitely, Arizona, New Mexico Nevada, Utah, Colorado...we all are suffering from drought conditions in most of the state if not all of it. Arizona has an EXTREME fire danger warning up.

By the way, the fire crews have contained the Flagstaff fire 100%...this is good news as it was so close to residences and business.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.
