There is a current fire blazing, called the Woody Wildfire just west of the city of Flagstaff. This afternoon they had to close off Rte. 66 and one lane of the Interstate 40.
Fire crews have responded quickly and the fire is currently estimated to be around 200 acres...the winds peaked at 58 mph gusts, averaging 24. The forecast for Thursday is not predicting high winds, but there is also no promise of rain or humidity in the forecast either.
If you have a TS exchange in the Flagstaff area...such as Fairfield, do not be alarmed as that resort is near the east side of Flagstaff.
The residents of some small developments have been evacuated near the fire, and other residents have been told to prepare for evacuation if the fire speeds up or crowns (that is when the fire leaps to high tops of pines and hops from tree top to tree top).
Snow Bowl, Lowell Observatory are out of danger at this time, but crews are preparing to safeguard them further if it is necessary.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the firefighters, families and residents of the area. If the fires continue at this pace, our firefighting crews will be pretty strained.
