Hooray, we hit the 50% containment mark, and while the winds kicked up big today, the fire lines held, and the firefighters continued to make progress.
Burnout was completed and containment further secured on the southeast part of the fire. On the west side, fire “fell” from the high cliffs onto plateaus in an unnamed canyon. Firefighters are monitoring the progress of those small areas and will determine tomorrow what action is needed based on available access.
Approximately 4.5 miles of fireline remain to be built.
The forecast for Sunday night is a 20 percent chance of widely scattered, dry thunderstorms, with humidity from 32-37 percent.
The extended forecast for Tuesday through Thursday calls for dry thunderstorms each day, with high temperatures throughout the week.
The evacuation order continues for Oak Creek Canyon from Midgely Bridge to the fish hatchery in Sterling Canyon (this includes homes, businesses and Forest Service campgrounds). This affects an estimated 581 residences and 40 commercial properties.
There are two new fires in the Yavapai County area, near Prescott Valley....fire fighters are already battling those blazes.
