  • Review - Scottsdale Camelback Resort Scottsdale Oct. 2012.

We got an exchange thru RCI for the 3 bedroom Barcelona model.
Those are 3 bedroom 2 bath, 2 story townhouses with a full bath up and one down.
There is also a bedroom downstairs with a queen bed.
The upstairs has a king bed and two twins and shares the big bathroom.
The living area downstairs has a fireplace and opens onto a small concrete patio.
There is also a small dining area next to the foyer.
The kitchen is galley style and opens up to the living area.
The furnishings were nice. Beds were comfy and bathrooms in good shape.

We had an interior facing unit so didn't have alot of road noise.
I believe we had unit C21 which is behind the tennis courts.
We arrived early and our room was ready around noon which was nice.

They have a nice pool and a decent pool bar that also serves food.
The prices were very reasonable and the drinks were good.
The bar staff was very friendly and made nice strong margaritas.

The units have two TV's downstairs and one in the master upstairs.
The wi-fi is pay per use. I think it's $3 a day if you don't have AT&T internet at home.
I do so it was free for me but it was easier to just use my miwi on my phone.
My friend was streaming movies so she paid for the wifi.
You only get free wifi on the device you register.
I hate when froofy resorts charge for wifi. Get serious.
This should be included in this day and age.

Parking is conveniently right in front of your unit. The units are decorated in
Spanish Mission style. The units are white washed with tile roofs and decorative
iron work entry courtyards. The doors are a dark mahogany like wood keeping
with the style. The bathrooms have decorative tiles but the kitchen is plain Jane.
The units have an eclectic styling to them but it works.

There was an Indian jewelry day on Monday where they had a free movie and then
local vendors were there peddling their wares. We had been in Santa Fe and Sedona
earlier in the week so were all jewelery'd out by then. They were nice though and gave
us some recommendations on things to do near Scottsdale. We took their advice and
went up to the hills for lunch at a recommended Mexican restaurant which was lovely.

The resort has a little movie theatre. I think they charge $3 per person. We didn't use
it so can't say how nice it was. The resort also has a little gym.
There is a concierge in the lobby and she tried to get us train tickets to Verde Canyon
but she was unsuccessful. We were sad to miss that.

Overall, it's a nice place. Not luxurious but nice enough. Very clean and everything in
working order. The grounds are nicely kept and the pool very nice. If you like smaller
resorts then this is a good option for the area. No golf onsite but everything you need
for a great week. It has a feel of being very residential, like you are at home for the week.
I would go back but would probably opt for the 1 story unit instead. The 3 bedroom is
1300 sq. ft and the 2 bedrooms are 1200 sq. ft. on one level. I think you lose alot of
living area with the 2 story units.

Hi, I am interested in staying here, but the fact that it is not on a golf course is kind of a deal breaker for me unless there is an accessible golf course near by. What are the golf courses I could play at if I end up staying here. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Willie, unfortunately I don't play golf but did see some course nearby. Not sure what they are called but I'm sure if you call the resort they will tell you if they have discounts for their guests.

You don't have to go far from anywhere in the Phoenix area to play golf. Go to google and type golf courses near Scottsdale Camelback Resort. The Phoenician is literally right next door but I don't know if it is open to the public.

I am surprised you couldn't get on the Verde Canyon railroad. Was it close to Halloween? Sometimes they have themed rides and I heard they can fill up fast but when we went there were lots of empty seats.

I am trying to decide if I should stay here or if I should go for this Vacation Package Scottsdale that I found online. I would like to know which is the better offer.

Since you are a golfer I think there are better options for golfers in the area.
You'd have to drive to a course from this resort.
Not that it is that far but it's definitely not geared towards being a golf resort.

Timeshares that are on Golf courses near Phoenix:

West gate Painted Mountain - Mesa
                Legacy Golf Resort - Phoenix
Orange Tree Golf Resort - Scottsdale

If you want to stay in a hotel, there are approximately a zillion options.
