I got ya. So it doesn't matter what week they gave RCI, right? Just that they would give me a week in RCI to use at some future date.

And it is 89 dollars to join RCI?

Oh and she said that they can't get me a week in II for this year. Only next year.

If they have your week, it would be greater. RCI has some trading power rules, so regarding if the week is high demand or not. The higher the demand, the easier it can get more exchange week and broader range.

But if not, I will take this as test run.

SOmetimes RCI has x year for y amount, so you may want to figure what you want do with this account, for how long, then try to neg. with a RCI representative.

How do I negotiate with RCI. I thought it was they put a week in for you and then you get whatever comes up.

How could they have my week for this year? That week has already passed.

Sorry, confuse you. When I say neg. I mean the membership. You can get like 3 year membership for the price of 2 year. But since your goal is to use the week in II exchange, you need to determine if you need extra year.

RCI is an exchange company, if you use that week, or rent that week out, you don't need them.

If you want to exchange the week with other owner, you may need an exchange company, RCI and II happen to be the 2 biggest ones but you can find several others on this forum. You can also exchange directly with anyone you know without using an exchange company.

The exchange company will take your week, and give you a credit type, so you can use these credit to exchange. So once you deposit your week, the week belongs to the exchange company, you only has a credit that exchange company will allow you to use in their system. They don't own these weeks until someone (HOA, manage company, developer, owner) give the use right of these weeks to them. But once someone deposit the week, they will no longer own the use right of that week.

The week very likely is already deposited to RCI and already been used by an exchanger. It probably in HOA's RCI account, they can assign the right to you once you have a RCI account. You can use that credit to exchange for another week RCI willing to open to the owner.

RCI's week credit is depended on the demand and supply. So although each week only get one credit, each credit may have different value. The more powerful credit will allow you to select more different resorts at different time, the less powerful one has to wait till some week loss its value.

Since RCI already take the week, it does not matter if the traveling date is pass or not. It will give HOA a credit for that week. So you may talk to manage company to see if they happen to have credit (actually deposit week) that associate with a good trading power week available to you. HOA usually should not involve in how good or bad a week trade, you have to determine yourself if HOA has several available week by make a good guess.

You're not really negotiating, they just may not have told you their best deal without a little coaxing, as usual they're trying to get the most $$$$. They often have deals for longer terms.

Resorts often do what is called a 'bulk spacebank' they will deposit lots of weeks well before their check-in date based upon historical averages of the number of their members who will then call and ask to have a week deposited. So they may well have a week that is already passed sitting in their account that they can transfer to your account. Although the week has passed it was deposited by the resort in a timely manner and will result in good trades if it was a good week.

                  Alternative exchange companies

Hey all new owners, don't forget, if you bought a red week you can always trade it with HTSE for a week in Hawaii or anywhere else they have inventory. www.htse.net

DAE will take it, too, if you see something that they have that fits your plans give them a try. http://www.daelive.com/

                    Trading Update

                    and a trading update:

A late August (8/25) banked week isn't doing as well as my mid-July week (some of you know what that did). But it is seeing a few nice 1 bedrooms for Nov/December at resorts on the beach in Fl (posted on ExOps), even a couple Gold Crowns for Thanksgiving. Plenty of Orlando. 1 bedroom at Smuggs for Labor Day (not seeing the 2 bedrooms there). I will likely use it for a summer week in the Berkshires (it is seeing the 1 beds at VV, but not the 2s). I also hope it will do well in the 45 day window.

So try to get the best banked week you can, and remember this is more of a utility week than a tiger; if you get a nice surprise, all the better. I expect the first 'optimal' week to be the 2008 week banked 13 months out. Hopefully 2007 will be good if they get it deeded fast enough. I think they're a little backed up

Texas Interior trades well for other places with alot of deposits ie Branson, Orlando, Virginia Mountains, If your wanting to trade to the beach plan on Mexico or Dominican Repulic. This is a RCI standard resort. I would take one but have more than I already need. I will however be contacting a friend tomorrow looking for his first TS and only because he travels off season. It will probably trade well for him

Hey, I'd be all over those if we weren't already booked for Mexico, CA, Jamaica and Montana. We hiked the Andes mountains in Chile this year and I would love to see Everest. I need more holidays, not more weeks

Don't be sad, you must be in great shape to be able to do all that extreme high altitude hiking!

I am probably going to pull the trigger on one of these weeks tomorrow, a summer 1BR. I am wondering if I will be able, in RCI, to pull 2BR units with this or maybe 1BR ski weeks? Hawaii 2BRs with a bulk space bank? Am I dreaming??

Has anyone played around with these weeks in II yet? Is it possible to pull 2BRs in II with a 1BR? Basic questions, but I would love someone's input. Thanks.
