  • Return from FF Sedona

We just returned from a long weekend at the Fairfield Sedona resort.

We arrived at the FF Sedona VIP check-in counter at 4:10pm on a Friday afternoon. The lady took our confirmation letter, entered in some information in the computer and walked away from the counter. There was one other person working behind the counter and she was helping another person check in. After about 5 minutes, the other FF employee asked if we were being helped. I said I am not sure, the lady that was here left without saying, “I will be right, back” or “excuse me” or anything at all. She attempted to call the backroom, but never decided to check us in. After another 5 minutes or so the first lady came back with no explanation where she had been. She continued checking us in and around 4:30, told us that the room was still not ready. We went to the concierge and got our parking pass and setup for an “Owners Update” for the following morning. We received two $25.00 vouchers for meals at our choice of six different restaurants in the Sedona area plus a discount card which gave a 10% discount at numerous places in both Sedona and Flagstaff. Having received the keys to the room, we proceeded up there and checked it out ourselves. Housekeeping was there finishing up and let us move in our things. The room was very nice with all the standard FF amenities. No complaints whatsoever with anything in the room. Very nice porch with a view of the Red Rock formations. We were in the 1200 building. The 1100 building looks like it has the best view of the resort, with 1300 very close.

We ate at several restaurants, the Coffee Pot for breakfast with their 101 types of omelets. We had dinner at Javelina Cantina (Mexican), Shugrue’s (seafood/steak), and the Cowboy Club (steak). Javelina Cantina and Shugrue’s are two of the six choices for the “free vouchers”. The food at all of these was very good.

We took a drive up through Oak Creek Canyon, a 12 mile drive towards Flagstaff. Scenery was very pretty. In Flagstaff we drove to the Snow Bowl ski area and took the ski lift up to the top. The Flagstaff temperature was 75 degrees. At the base of the ski lift the temperature was 68 degrees and at the top it was 56 degrees. Price of the lift was $10 per person and worth it for the view of the area. At the top, you are at about 12,000 feet. Dress appropriately!

On Sunday, we went about 25 miles to Clarksdale and boarded the Verde Canyon Railroad. It is a 4 hour train ride through the Verde Canyon. Use your AAA card for a discount there. Train ride was very scenic and peaceful.

Overall, we had a excellent time in Sedona and would like to return in the future.

Thanks for the trip report. We are going there for the first time this June. Just today at work I had two patients tell me that we will ROAST in Sedona in June. My daughter and I love the heat so I feel we will cope fine but my husband just wilts in the heat so now I am getting nervous. We will be going to the Grand Canyon for two days hopefully it will be cooler there? Now that you posted this this ski lift idea maybe this will get us out of the heat and the railroad idea is great too. So you helped me out greatly!
    Thanks, Laurie

It depends what part of June. We went to the Grand Canyon during the first week of June this year. They were having a heat wave and it was 90 degrees but it didn't really feel bad. They said normally it's about 80 around then. I don't know about Sedona though. It's going to be cooler than the southern part of Arizona though.
