We are staying in Ruidoso, NM over Memorial Day week. Our two Grandson are really into American Indians. Are there any Reservations, museums, etc. in the area that we could take them to so they could see the Native Southwest Indian culture, etc.?

I'm not sure how far the drive would be, but I would recommend you make the effort to visit Mesa Verde National Park. We visited it when our children were youngsters. Now as 30 somethings they plan to take their children to visit this amazing place. In addition there are many smaller historical sights. I think there is a very large Navaho Pueblo fairly close as well complete with restaurant. The legitimate object of Government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done but cannot do at all or cannot do so well for themselves”- Lincoln

We spent a week in Ruidoso about 10 years ago, and I remember that the area had Apache history...with a lodge run by the Apache and a ski run.
Here is a link to Ruidoso Info which might be some use.
As for Mesa Verde....best to plan a trip to Durango area and plan to visit the ruins from the timeshares in that area. Fairfield has one there.
New Mexico is rich in Native American culture, you will probably find lots to interest your grandsons. The local main street seemed pretty friendly too, and shopkeepers are always helpful if your grandson's are not shy....when they visit, encourage them to have conversations with the locals to get some insight to the history.Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Kind of late.....but I am from New Mexico and have been to Ruisdoso several times. You might want to check out the inn of the mountain gods, also there are several museums in the area. You can check out things such as billy the kid etc..... Ruidoso has lots of Navajo and Apache indians. It is beautiful in the summer. Enjoy!!

The avg temp in July and Aug is around 80. The evenings and nights get pretty cool, so you still want to take a pullover/windbreaker. There is usually a 30-40 degree difference between the high and low. It is all forresty there. Now if you happen to drive out of Ruidoso say to Alamogordo, that is smack in the middle of the desert and temperatures there are high 90s or even 100's. Alamogordo has a nice space museum. Back to ruidoso, there are alot of horsemen there because of Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. There are lots of good places to eat. There is a waterpark, and they have bumper boats and go karts too. I miss going there. My family still lives in New Mexico, but I live in Michigan now. Ruidoso was one of the last places I went to before I left for the Navy. I have since got out and am back in the civilian world.
