    21

This actually belongs in the Southwest forum. It will probably be moved there at some point.

I believe you have to be 21 to gamble anywhere in the United States. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That is not true. You only have to be 18 to gamble in many of the California casinos.

I didn't know that. Is that because they're on Indian reservations or is the age set by each state like the drinking laws?

The Indian casinos in California that allow 18 year olds to gamble do not serve alcohol in the casino. If there is a hotel associated with the casino, they may serve liquor in the hotel restaurant.

That is not 100% true but it is close. For example Casino Pauma allows 18 year olds yet has an open bar right in the casino and they do not have a hotel. Some of the laws are dictated by the state's liquor laws and some are tribal. It is true that the age limit is 21 for casinos that have cocktail service for the patrons that are gambling. That is dictated by California State's Liquor laws which also prohibit the casino from offering free alcoholic beverages. There are some casinos that the age limit is 21 and they do not serve alcohol. That is a tribal decision.
