Where will you be staying? For how long? Why did you choose that resort?

We'll be at the Westin Kierland the end of January. It's a TS exchange so it will be a one week trip. I had debated extending the week and spending some time in Tombstone (wife is a ghost nut) but, realized the super bowl will be in Phoenix this year and didn't want to extend it to a point where we'd be competing with airfare for those going home.

We choose this resort over others like Cave Springs and the Marriott resort there because it was available for the time frame we wanted and, we've never exchanged into a Starwood or Westin TS resort. The reviews were good, the location works well for us and I like what I've seen of the pictures I've found of the resort (which haven't been many).

        .
Well, since you won't be going to Tombstone on that trip, might I suggest you begin searching for a place in Tucson for the next trip to AZ? There are several good resorts in Tucson, Worldmark, Varsity Club of America, Shell Vacation to name a few.

The drive from Tucson to Tombstone is quite do-able, and you could enjoy other sights, such as Kartchner Caverns, which is just fabulous!
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Actually, we will be going to Tombstone, just not by extending our week. We'll either make it as a day trip or I'll get a room for one night and drive back sometime the next day. We've done this sort of thing when we were in Williamsburg and wanted to go to Ghettyburg (twice now) and once when we were in Lake Tahoe and though we'd fly down to Vegas for a night using SWA's.

I'm also debating driving up to the Grand Canyon as a day trip but will probably hold that idea until next year. I'm thinking of attempting to get a week in Sedona for January of '08 and I believe the canyon will be an easier trip from there.

Tuscon is also on my list of possible January vacation spots and we'll eventually get there. Winters in the midwest have been bitterly cold the last couple of years and a week in AZ seems like the perfect way to bust up cabin fever.

Yes, from Sedona to the GC can be an easier drive, just do remember that in January there can be snow in the higher elevations (and even in Sedona), although the past 2 years have been minimal events in January. There is also the Fairfield in Flagstaff (which is only about an hour's drive from Sedona). FF is a good spot for seeing the GC (about a 1 3/4 drive from Flagstaff). There are also some state and national rec areas around Flagstaff, such as Walnut Canyon or Sunset Crater.

Good idea! And happy hunting for just the right location in AZ! If I can help, please let me know.

we're planning on AZ around February 2008

I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon and the idea of escaping Syracuse weather in February is very appealing. We haven't settled on the resort yet, but are leaning toward Marriott's Canyon Villas or Westin Kierland in Phoenix/Scottsdale.

However, I will probably do a little research on TS4MS before we make a final decision.

A few years ago we stayed at the Ridge on Sedona Gulf, a Sunterra resort right on the golf course. It had a lock-off and was very nice.
