  • Fire Season kicks off in Arizona

Visitors to the Southwest might not realize how dry, really really dry the area is. Some folks who come from green and humid places, have no idea how easily a fire can start out here. Some fires are started by lightning, it is true...but many of the fires, the worst kinds, like last year's Brin's Fire in Sedona, are started by humans.

    The forest is very dry.

In the White Mountain area there is a fire above Payson, near Christopher Creek....3 hot shot crews are fighting it and 8 more are ordered. The fire is on a rugged part of the mountains. It is moving North with additional resources, air tankers and crews being ordered. This fire is called the Promontory fire. Several other fires are burning.

The Ponderosa Fire is also burning....but near containment.

The Monkey Fire is 80 % contained, near Flagstaff.

The San Rafael fire near Tucson is burning.

Arizona welcomes so many visitors....and so many locals enjoy the wilderness and rugged beauty....I just wish that all of us folks would remember how vulnerable the state is....we all have to remember: ...if we smoke, we should not toss our cigarettes out the car window, and we should be sure the cig is completely out. If we camp we need to obey rules.... if they say no fires, they mean no fires. It is not just property that gets threatened, it is life, human and the wildlife. And if we see smoke, we need to report it!
Life is short, live it with this awareness.
