  • Murder at Tahiti Timeshare Las Vegas

On Tuesday morning at about 2:20 AM a couple of tourists were beaten and robbed. The beating was so severe that the man died the next day. Note, this is the Tahiti Vacation Club on Tropicana near Decatur, not the new Tahiti Village.

You can read about it here.

This is not normally a bad area, so it boggles the mind (although it could happen anywhere in any town I imagine). The timeshare is located about a block and a half west of the Orleans Casino. The main crimes here are people getting run over and killed while jaywalking.

They must have won in the Casino and were followed.
My cousin owns in one of the Tahiti properties.

My thought exactly. Probably walked "home" to the timeshare from the Orleans. Thought they'd be OK, since it was only a couple of blocks. But heck, it was 2 AM! If that's what happened, they didn't use good sense. If you win, take a taxi. And if you are out late, and staying off the Strip, don't walk. Don't let your common sense leave you just because you are on vacation.

Yikes!!! We stayed there in 2004! It is a pretty secure complex. I am surprised/shocked to read:
outside their room at the Tahiti Vacation Club at 5101 W. Tropicana Ave., near Decatur Boulevard, police said.
...because entrance to all the units are from within the courtyard. Still can't figure out how the culprits entered the property...as one needs to use a card to get in the buildings.

I'd guess they must have followed them in.

Wow. This story really bothers me. We were in Las Vegas until Monday. I stayed at WM Las Vegas Blvd. Off the strip-but my room was entered and things disturbed/taken. According to security-it happened minutes after we left for Lake Mead. Said it was a "trusted employee/housekeeper" Long story and I have written to WM owner services about it but yeesh....it sure can unsettle you just as this story has.
The WM has a little guard shack and you must show your parking pass when driving in between 6 pm and 6 am (I believe) but you could certainly walk on property and get to the rooms easily. Wonder if they were followed. I sure felt like we were watched. It was clear we weren't coming back any time soon with our ice chest and boat.

I don't think I would stay anywhere down Tropicana without a rental car - some of the areas look pretty questionable. Of course, crime can happen almost anywhere!
