Predictions for the coming days, around 114 degrees in Phoenix area. No clouds in sight, no rain, no chance of relief for a while. If you like a sauna, you are gonna love this!

      katiemack,
We'll be coming there in about 10 more days. Generally how much cooler is Sedona than Phoenix? Also coming from the midwest, it is a must to celebrate 4th of July with fireworks and I've been searching the internet and finally found a town with a fireworks celebration!!
What do you know about Prescott? Maybe about an hours ride from Sedona?

      Thanks, Laurie

          Hi, Laurie,

Sedona can be as much as 15 degrees cooler during the day....Flagstaff cooler still; the caveat being that if you are out in the bright sun, nothing feels cool, and heat can be intense.

At night, Sedona cools down considerably, usually. So nights can be another 20 or so degrees cooler than the daytime temps.

Prescott is about an hour and half drive from Sedona....where will you be staying? The annual fest is a big draw and the city is very active during that day. You will enjoy the visit!

As for fireworks in Arizona, well, the fires of the past few years have been so bad, it can be difficult to find a live fireworks (unless there is a body of water near)...for example, in Tempe, they built a "lakes" area, with shops, restaurants and hotels etc...and they have had live fireworks there.

In the Village of Oak Creek, they used to have some fireworks but now, they are having a Big Screen simulcast of fireworks with Dolby sound at the annual picnic at the golf course.

            Katiemack,
we will be staying at Sedona Springs the week which the 4th of July lands. In another thread you mentioned about 4th of July @ Pioneer Park. Is that the same pioneer park in Prescott?
Sorry with all the questions, Laurie

Found out the answer to my question about pioneer park. Really, really need to find some fireworks for that night. I am really hearing it from my family as to why I had to book that week to be gone from our outing at our cottage. That is traditionally a big celebration for us. We are normally out in the Straits of Mackinaw in a boat watching Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, and Mackinaw Islands fireworks all going off at the same time and the sky is truly magnificent. So I think Prescott will work out as an alternative. Thanks a million!

              Laurie,
Be sure to visit the Courthouse Square area in Prescott, across from "Whiskey Row" ....on 4th of July they usually have a crafts fair, and under the big shade trees of the square it is a neat way to spend the afternoon before the fireworks.

                Hi katiemack!

I am in the same boat as Laurie. We are visiting Sedona over July 4th and while we always seem to be vacationing over this holiday and missing out on fireworks-it might be nice to see them.
If one didn't want to travel to Prescott....which would you choose coming from Sedona.....Camp Verde or Cottonwood? I am not familiar with Sedona or either place I just typed...can you help? These are closer, right?

                Thanks,
                Tracy

                  Hi, StressCadet,

You can't go wrong with either Camp Verde or Cottonwood for ease to get to. Both close to Sedona. Camp Verde has some historical sites and the casino for those interested in that.

Cottonwood is south of Sedona taking Hwy 89A.
