1- Red Rock State Park
“A Layman's Look at Hubble”
On Sunday, July 1, 2007, Bill Sliva will present. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was named after the American astronomer Edwin P. Hubble. Dr. Hubble's observations showed the apparent expansion of the universe, which provided the basic foundation for the Big Bang Theory. This presentation gives an overview of the discoveries made by the HST. A small selection of the 700,000 images taken in the Hubble's fifteen years in space will be discussed, demonstrating our ever increasing knowledge of the universe. Reservations are recommended, seating limited. 2pm in the theatre. 928.282.6907
Self-Guided Interpretive Trails
Two self-guided trails with numbered points along the route explain environmental aspects of the area. The Smoke Trail guide takes you along Oak Creek for 1/2 mile. The Ethno-botany guide explains the traditional uses of plants found along the Kisva Trail. Pick up the guides at the visitor center desk for a returnable deposit.

Daily showing of “The Natural Wonders of Sedona-Timeless Beauty” movie reveals why Arizona's Sedona & Oak Creek Canyon were voted “the most Beautiful Place in America” by USA Weekend. Presented upon request.
Geology Hike - 5/13 (Hikes will resume in September). Volunteer-guided hike throughout the park, discussing geology of the area. Includes Eagle's Nest Trail. 2pm at the visitor center.
Moonlight Hikes - 6/28, 6/29, 7/28, 7/29, 8/27, 8/28
An unforgettable experience, this hike includes a naturalist-led interpretive program on the park's beautiful trails. Enjoy the sunset and moonrise from an overlook and return by the light of the moon. Hike leaves promptly from the Visitor Center. Please wear suitable clothing (prepare for cool nights) and bring water and a flashlight. 6:30pm.
Sunset Hike - Mon., Wed., Fri., & Sat. - during June, July and August. Come and join our volunteers for a Sunset Hike along the Park's beautiful trails. The hikes start from the Visitor Center at 6pm.
Guided Nature Walk - Daily at 10am. Naturalist-led hike lasting 1-1/2 to 2 hours, which will introduce you to the riparian ecosystem of Oak Creek. Plants, wildlife, geology, history and other features of the park are discussed.
Guided Bird Walk - Wed. & Sat., May at 8am & June-August at 7am. Naturalist-led hike for beginners as well as the advanced bird enthusiasts. Bring binoculars.
Special Programs - Daily at 2pm. Guest speaker or a ranger/naturalist-led activity of approx. 1 hour. Programs may include a nature-hike, a special presentation or an educational/nature video. This program may be an indoor or outdoor activity.
