  • Nipples to the Wind

Doesn't sound much like an Arizona based idea, do you think? But actually it is the name of the play running at Herberger Theater in Phoenix.

The play runs from Sept 7 to Sept 30.

There are many great plays and art exhibits around Phoenix and Scottsdale. Just look above in our listings to find some links for the area.

    To explore a few:

And for those who enjoy a little murder mystery:

Huh? So, what's it about? Interesting title, I must say.

I think it's about a woman having a hard time in a smelly bathroom.

That would be one interpretation....reminds me of a 20 minute intermission at a small venue in New York, where the lines in the women's room were so long that some brave souls just walked into the men's room, where there were no lines....

...but no, the play is described as

NIPPLES TO THE WIND is being called the "best live theater" and "a must-see event!" Janye Anderson and Paula Coco portray 14 unforgettable characters including a narcissistic Latina suicide hotline operator, an emotional Little League mom who winds up in jail, and three sisters at confession who each share their personal, unique view of the same event (none of them appear "topless!"). The title is based on an old Southern expression that encourages keeping your "head up and chest out" through life's challenges. This refreshing comedy features intelligently funny writing that leave both male and female audiences rolling in the aisles!

        Tickets are $35

I am always learning, now I know an old Southern expression....I guess "nipples to the wind" is akin to "balls of steel"....

Okay, makes a little more sense. I was thinking: women survivors of a plane crash in the Rockies or Trail Blazing women during the westward movement on the Great Plains. I just never heard that Southern expression before. I'll have to try to work it into my conversations this week...see what reactions I get.

Our local theater group did Menopause the Crisis Musical last spring. It was pretty funny & Mr. Barn was surprised that he actually enjoyed it. He didn't want to go but we have season tickets & I wouldn't let him stay home!

Me neither. Also men have nipples too, and I notice none of us have considered that as a possibility. And let's just think, how many more MEN's nipples than WOMEN's nipples do most of us see in a lifetime?

I know, Wacky. I even told myself , " Self, men have nipples, too. Why couldn't it be a play about men as well?" But, somehow, nipples equate to women in my brain. Sexist, I suppose, but so it goes.

I am with you on the picture in my head, too. Makes my nipples pucker thinking about an icey wind on my bare boobs, hair flying around my face and getting in my mouth as I trudge across the Wyoming plains holding my infant in one arm while leading the trusty mule with the other hand. Mr. Barn is driving the team of oxen pulling our wagon load of meager possessions toward the fertile lands of California. Wait a minute....maybe this could be a musical..........I'm thinking 2 or 3 Mormon families...maybe 4 to 6 woman...one is a widow....2 men...with great builds....somehow their shirts got ripped to shreads while crossing some river....it's summer so the women have stripped to their camisoles for comfort.....the wind is picking up........

Yes, it manages to be fakey-naughty and fakey-inspirational at the same time.

I, too, thought it was something by Elton John.

I moved a few of the posts

Because I was tempted to veer off topic a bit and play, I decided to split this thread and move the rest of it to the "Post a Joke" area, and we can play there....

The rest of this thread (for play purposes) is HERE
