"ADOT approved a conteract with Southwest Asphalt Paving (SWAP) to construct the second phase of improvements to SR 179 in Sedona. Project 2, between Back o' Beyond and the "Y" intersection at SR 89A. This will include reconstructing approximately four miles of SR 179, constructing a new highway bridge over Oak Creek and constructing a pedestrian bridge north of that.
The project is scheduled to begin in early 2008 and last for approximately 24 months. SWAP also has the construction contract for Project 1 in the Village of Oak Creek and the Forest Service.
The contract includes incentives to ensrue timely completion of the project and minimize disruptions to adjacent properties and businesses. For instance, there will be financial penalties for excessive lane closures, depending on the time of day. The contract also requires the contractor to hire an arborist to continue ongoing tree preservation efforts."
