  • Any advice on Las Vegas...Shows/Restaurants/Must do's

Going to Las Vegas March 2 - March 7 th, for the first time.

I just booked Danny Gans, and am planning on booking Bette Middler. Should I just book the Bette Midler tickets from her official website?

Any advice on what to do while there?...What shows to see, or restaurants to visit, would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any advice on getting good prices on shows.

    Thanks!!!
    Angela

If the price is right is still going on then go see that, Rerstaurants are great there if you want the higher end ones there are 2 Emerils restaurants. There is a new one from Bastianich(SP) located in the mall.

The Bette Midler tickets are ranging from $127 to $650. I'm afraid I'd get a nose bleed from the cheaper tickets. Not sure what to do.

One of people going with me is an Emeril fan, so we'll definitely being going to one of them.

We are huge Cirque du Soleil fans and that is basically the only reason I've gone to Las Vegas over the last few years. If you've never seen a Cirque show, or even if you have, I suggest "Mystere" or "O" (those are the only shows I've seen there). You usually cannot get discounted seats.

There is a half price same day tix booth inside the Fashion Show Mall (which is on the strip, just north of Treasure Island which is just north of Mirage -where you will be for Danny Gans).
You won't see anything for sale for Cirque and maybe nothing else you want to see, but when I was there , I noticed that quite a bit was listed for sale.

Yes, I've seen some of the Cirque du Soleil shows, and am also a fan. Love, (The Beatle Songs) is one that we're thinking about. Thanks!

Really good to know. Thanks!!!! This will be great for filling in while we're down there. Also, I feel better knowing that I can play it by ear, at least a little bit.

There is an Emrials Stteak house wich was very elegant and there was one in the MGM grand I believe. The one in the MGM was great but not as plush as the other one.

I will look into it more for you Reservatioons should be done before you leave to go to LV.

                    Angela,
LOVE is the only show I saw when there.
If you really are a fan of the music and the group then I think you will enjoy the show.
Now for this one, even the nosebleed seats were quite good - it's all in the perspective. Higher up can actually be more comfortable for taking in the overall show.
No seat is bad, the furthest away is only 90' from the stage and the sound comes through 5 speakers in the back of every seat.
Actually being too close is not that great especially for the one song that covers 1/2 audience with a parachute. It's a beautiful swirling visual for those higher up, but lower down, you are just under a tent...
                    Irene

You can find discounts to some mid-class shows at Goldstartickets.com. Travelzoo shows discount show tickets to Mystere, Zumanity, Phantom and Spamalot for your dates (but book now, the first two are "limited seats").

Do you like funny, no holds barred comedy? If so, Bobby Slayton is in residence at Hooters. He's funny, and a mile a minute. Rita Rudner is definitely a funny lady (Harrah's). Mac King or Ronn Lucas for an afternoon show, or Society of Seven. Make time to go down to Fremont Street Experience one night to see the show. Its well worth it.

Of the "tribute shows," the best two are Barbara and Frank, the concert that never was, and Jay White performs Neil Diamond. Cheapie variety show? Viva Las Vegas is at the Plaza (downtown) every afternoon for $10.

The Bastianich restaurant(s) that Bigfrank referred to are actually Mario Bittali/Joe Bastianich partnerships. They are in the Venetian and Palazzo hotels. If I were going to Emeril's, I prefer Delmonicos. The service (and prices, actually) is at a much higher level. But if you don't want steak, you may like Emeril's better. Just don't order the chicken. Jerry did, and it came bloody. And then they had the nerve to try to tell us it was "range free," and that's why it was bloody. Huh? Wolfgang Puck has many good restaurants in town, including Spago, and the casual Wolfgang Bar and Grill, which I really liked.

If I can help you further, feel free to email.

                      Hope this helps.

Had a simple lunch of salad and pasta at the Battali/Bastianich restaurant -
Enoteca San Marco - in the Venetian. Nicely prepared and served. Loved the bread and drizzly oil ..
Best part is , we sat (indoors) out in the open court designed to look as though you were sitting on the Grand Canal in Venice, complete with gondolas, with a lot to watch including some mimes and a wedding or two on the nearby bridges.
Was about $25 inc. tax tip no wine and we split a giant salad but am sure it would be higher for dinner and if you had meat/fish etc.

                          For restaurants:

2 great smaller restaurants (off the strip) are:

Lotus of Siam, which is fairly well reknown as the best Thai restaurant in the U.S. In a little strip mall on Sahara, about a mile or so off the strip. It's a small restaurant, but has amazing and very authentic Thai food.

Kathy's Southern Cooking, about 4 miles off the strip, on Green Valley at about Tropicana. Great southern food (I want to bathe in their brown gravy). Small joint, but wonderful food.

Also off the strip is Lawry's, which makes some of the best Prime Rib you've ever had. The main restaurant, in LA, is always crowded with a long wait to get in. Because the one in Vegas is not on the strip, it's often not crowded and very little wait. A bit more expensive (about $50-$70 a person), but worth it.

Breakfast at Hash House a-go-go is good, but the hash can sometimes be greasy. The hash and skillet breakfasts are often good if you catch them on a good day, and the pancakes and french toast never disappoint, though.

Carnegie Deli, in the Mirage, is a branch of the New York Deli, and like in New York, the Corned Beef and cheesecake are wonderful, though pricey. Corned Beef Hash for breakfast will fill you up all day, and you will have lots of that wonderful corned beef.

There is a frozen custard place up near the Stratosphere, Luv It Frozen Custard, on Oakley about a half block of the strip, that has become a Las Vegas institution. Its hours are strange, though, and it's out of the way, so you need to call and find out when they are open before going.

Oh gosh, I almost forgot about the restaurant we really liked when we were there last year. It's in the Mandalay Bay, a Mexican place. The margaritas were wonderful! The only time I've ever had one that wasn't blended (waiter talked me into it). Now, I just need to remember the name of the restaurant, . I'll find it and come back.

Okay, here it is, the Border Grill:

Guys, thanks so much!!! All your suggestions will be a huge help. It's so much easier when you have a few good ideas, and some nice restaurants lined up.

I'm really starting to get excited. Can't wait to go.
