We'll be going to Scottsdale next month..

we were there a couple years ago and never left the pool.
We are thinking about actually leaving the timeshare and seeing the site.

I need some recommendations for food, and fun

We'll have 7 adults and 9 kids all age ranges. We need to find economical places to visit and eat.
We'll be staying at Villa Mirage

    any ideas?

    Hi, CaliDave,
Affordable and nearby for eateries: Carraba's Italian, Atlanta Bread Company, Wildflower Bread Co., Pizza Picazzo's. Right at Pinnacle Peak shopping area is Trader Joe's and many fast food and nice restaurants.

Coldstone Creamery is near Loop 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd at Hayden.

There is also a Costco nearby...so you can buy gasoline and stock up on things.

If you are seeking a good spot for breakfast, The Good Egg is just south around Thunderbird and Scottsdale Rd.

You are close to Taliesin, Frank Lloyd's famous architecture school.

The Phoenix Zoo and Arizona Science Museum might be an enjoyable day's outings...or the Heard Museum if you have interest in the Native American culture.

The SVM has a great pool so I understanfd why one would never leave it!

Of course, it is just about 2 hours up to Sedona, and almost the same to visit Prescott, the original capital of Arizona....if you like antiques and cowboy history you might enjoy Prescott.

There are movie theaters close by, and the Symphony and Phoenix theater and Herberger will still be in season.

Let me know if there are more specific info I can check for you!

Dave, we were in Phoenix last month for the first time. We thought the Taliesen tour was fabulous.....but we didn't have kids along. Adults will find it a fascinating tour.

      Hope

whre is the resort you are staying??? Will you have a car????

Check outthese places with the kids
          1) Rawhide- a must!!!!!!!!!!!!!
          2)Out of Africa!!!!
3)Worldwildlife Zoo- I like it more than phoenix zoo!
          4)Arizona Puppet Theatre
5)Rairoad park!!!!!!!!!!!another must if traeling with kids
6)Enchanted Island is always fun for little ones 6 and under
7)AZ on the Rcoks for older ones

Places to eat- anywhere in Desert Ridge, Five and Diner, Oregano's, Chompies Deli, The Good Egg, Red Robin-my favorite places to go with the kids. However,I can certainly recommend places if you are looking for more upscale and adult places. My kids are not great at restaurants so these are the places I feel are very kid frienly

That would be Kartchner Caverns in Tucson.

                    Thanks Katie..

Are there any water parks in the area?

Also, would the kids have a better time at Rawhide or Tombstone for a Western Experience?

My kids really enjoyed Rawhide. We made a day of it, and even had dinner there......

                        Dave,

Try this place http://www.goldfieldghosttown.com/ It's about an hour east of town near Apache Junction. The train ride was reasonable (about $2 ?) and the food at the saloon wasn't bad.

Rawhide is a fun day...Tombstone can be fun, but I think history buffs might enjoy it more.

As for waterparks...depends on your definition. The front desk can alert you to the closest, but I think some are not open yet. It is not hot enough. You could try http://www.castlesncoasters.com/hours.html.

                          Have a safe trip! Enjoy!
