I'm interested in hearing if there were any reports of damage from the hurricane to timeshares in the Padre Island area or to any other timeshares... Thanks for any news you can provide!

Yes, South Padre Island is closed to all visitors due to there is no power on the island. I found on VRI website that the Royale Beach and Tennis Club is closed with water damage in the units and lots of broken windows. They are not taking any reservations for next two weeks and don't know anything after that. VRI link: Vacation Resorts International Hurricane Dolly Update
We have an RCI exchange for September 5th at this resort and not sure what will happen.
Anyone know what RCI does if resort is still closed? What are my options. We didn't buy ins.

RCI doesn't HAVE to do anything. Force majeure.
If you find a replacement on-line before you call you may get a helpful VG that might swap it but expect to lose at least the original exchange fee and at most everything except a very worthless trader in your RCI account.Lawren

Inverness at South Padre
Per ICS Mgmt:
As of today’s assessment of the Inverness at South Padre Resort, the resort,
will be closed for the next three weeks affecting the check-in dates of:
July 26, August 2, and August 9, 2008
If you have a reservation for these three weeks at Inverness at
South Padre you will need to make other arrangements due to this closure.
So far the Review Team has discovered the laundry room is
totally gone and visually you can see missing
siding parts and broken glass around the building.
There is still no water or electricity at the property or on the island.
The Review Team is walking the property unit by unit, room
by room checking each and every item from dishes to furniture
and walls to carpet.
This is a slow process and we may not know the total damage for a while.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

Updates...
Royale Beach & Tennis- August 7, 2008 12pm PST
As of today, the broken windows, patio doors and entry frames are being replaced. The resorts power and cable has been restored. Royale Beach and Tennis Club still plans to re-open on August 22nd, 2008.
******
Inverness at South Padre- Friday, August 15, 2008
The Insurance Adjusters have completed their "walk thru" of the resort.
We are now waiting for the final estimate which should take about 4 - 5 business days.
We are working with the telephone company to try and get two direct lines to the
office at Inverness at South Padre but the telephone company is so back-logged that
they keep delaying our installation. We are hoping by early next week to have
these two lines in the office. Until next week, you can call the ICS Management
Corporate Office at 713-378-6447, ext#0 for the operator and she will direct
your call to the appropriate person.
The property is still closed up to and through the September 13th, 2008 check-ins
which means reservations through that date are cancelled.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

Update on Inverness at South Padre
Letter to owners dated 8/28/08
Damage to the property was classified as severe and disastrous. The resort will remain closed much longer than originally expected. Tentative reopen date is now set as late November. A phone line is being set up for owners at 956-772-1239 to try and provide owners with additional information.
Lost usage and future reservations have been deemed an "Act of God" and there will be no replacement of usage, or refund of 2008 fees. RCI will not accept any weeks for banking. The status of RCI pts owners is uncertain, and those owners have simply been referred to RCI.
All in all- this doesn't look very promising for owners..my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.
