While you're in Sedona I would suggest you try to make it to the Grand Canyon. It's about a 1 hour drive along a beautiful mountainous road to Flagstaff and then about an hour from Flagstaff (total approx. 2 hours).

Also, when driving back from the Canyon you can go another route and see the Painted Desert.

There are other areas that may interest you, but these stand out in my mind.

BTW, many people like the jeep tours but I was one that didn't. My idea of a good time is not riding over huge boulders and rough terrain, although we saw some beautiful scenery.

Bruce we have missed our chance! My family and I will be there the 7th thru the 14th.

I'm sorry I will miss you but I remember a lot of folks picking up the spring breaks up "over there" eighteen months ago. I initially did have the same week as you and then the school calendar came out. Oooops! So we will miss Arroyo Roble and instead have a 2 Bed accomodation at Sunterra on the Ridge.

You are bound to meet up with someone.

I would have liked that. At least Big Frank and Sandcrab will not be there to pick on poor little weakened me. Those two picked on this poor defenseless old gezzer in St Croix and then tryed to get weakened old me into trouble .

        I barely survived.

a beautiful place, and lots of great day trips in the area.
If you do go to Grand Canyon, make sure you buy the golden access pass for $10 which will get you into the National Parks free for as long as you have the card. (available to those age 62 or older).

This B&B site has a lot of suggestions for things to do and see in the area.

              http://thepenrose.com/activities.shtml

Hopefully more knowledgable folks can give some feedback...please.

There was also an article on National Monument Park, UT in the NYTimes Sunday travel section today. It is 4 hours each way from Sedona but that is where the John Ford western films with John Wayne were filmed. I wonder if it is worth all that driving. I worry that if we don't go we will not ever get back to the area.

Sedona is so beautiful, you are going to love it.

                I agree with katmandu....

The thing that I would recommend the most is a day trip to the Grand Canyon via the 16 mile Oak Creek Drive, and through the Painted Desert.

Don't miss the 16 mile Oak Creek Drive, at least I loved it. Also, the Petrified Forest.

Information on the various day trips can be gotten in town at the tourist center, if you do not get it before hand. Jerome, and Montezuma's Castle are pretty close by.

The Red Rock jeep tour is fun. You will get bounced around, but the scenery, and views make it worth while.

                Enjoy your trip.....

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Oh, I just remembered. If you are adventerous, you can take a hot air balloon ride. I am afraid of heights, so we didn't take one, however, I can only imagine how beautiful the rocks and mountains must look from above.....

I think they were a little pricey, but there are coupons and deals to be gotten if you are interested.

Here are some things we enjoyed:
                    of course the Grand Canyon
lots of things to see in Flagstaff, including the Lowell Observatory, Walnut Canyon, sunset Crater Volcano Ntional Monument.
If you make the trip to the Painted Desert, at Holbrook go to 180 and then enter the National Park to drive through the Petrified Forest which takes you back to 40 thru the painted desert. on the way back, you may want to see Meteor Crater, west of Winslow, where a meteor crashed a long time ago.
I remember enjoying Prescott, an old governor's complex and some other things there.
Not very far away is the old town of Jerome, which I believe is a national park, and quite interesting.
